Coke is the beverage equivalent of duct tape with 1001 uses. I've had meat balls marinated in Cherry Coke. Yum. It is a great rust remover & a nourishing plant food in the garden. Just recently I had a bug bite that may have been from an earwig. I never saw the brute. I didn't have anything to treat it with, and happened to be sipping a diet Coke. So I dabbed some on the bite. It stopped itching immediately and although the welt was ugly and purply-red for a day, it was gone in 2 days.

Re: Coca cola
Do you suppose Pepsi works the same?
I'm very partial to Pepsi and was on a high when they produced the "throw back" several years ago, now they've changed it again to Pepsi "w/"sugar, but it just not the same.
I don't drink sodas/ colas anymore because of the high fructose corn syrup...
and I'd have to be dying of dehydration before consuming a diet anything, bleh...how do you do it Spirit?
But every now and then I run into a Mexican Pepsi (or even Coke) and snap em up because they are made the "old" way...ha ha ha, old way soda !
Here's a list of just 51 uses http://www.wisebread.com/51-uses-for-co ... imate-list number 51 is just drink it from the can...if you can, well the reason one can't is it is too sweet these days is because of the high fructose corn syrup. Used to be able to drink from the can, then one day I had to add ice cubes all the time, then I learned why.

Making a ham in it sounds delish!

Re: Coca cola
I'm not a soda drinker normally, but I had a wild, mad craving. I think I last had a Coke 2 summers ago. It hits me like that. I'm good now for a couple years again.

Re: Coca cola
I don't drink sodas often, either. They make me more thirsty.
However, when going outside in the summer it is almost automatic that you order either beer or Kofola, which is a local version of Cola. They made it during socialism when there was a demand for a cola-type drink but of course, they couldn't import this capitalist devil from the USA
I really prefer it because it tastes better as it contains not only cola sirup but also herbal and fruit extracts and is still made with real sugar.
I used to drink coca cola as a child and I bought it about 2 years ago and I was shocked how bad it tasted (artificial sweetener) and the color was so weak, like a strong tea... I remember that it used to be darker 10-15 years ago.

Re: Coca cola
The most likely agent in there is the high-fructose corn syrup and the preservatives, I think. Coca Cola is also highly acidic, and thus kills bacteria that can't thrive in such environments.
I usually use honey, when I have it. If I need to remove rust, I use white vinegar. I've never used Coke before, though. Interesting idea...
