Woah, a fake stone, do you mean it was plastic? or it was misrepresented. That is happening a lot so it really pays to know your stones. Turquoise it probably the most adulterated as dyed Howlite...still a stone but frequently not what is sold as.
Your very best bet is to find a gem show. There is a gem show finder at the top of this forum

At these kinds of shows you will find knowledgeable people and stones for a good price.
Also find a local rock hound club, these guys are fanatic's but they go on digs and have swaps, it's a good place to learn.
There is lots of dyed stuff out there and some of it looks cool but if you are looking for stones to heal with, dye seems so unnatural.
This place has good stuff, I recommend them because I know them but the prices can be a bit ouchy.
