Amethyst?

I have 3 sets of amethyst now. All i know is that it amplifies psychic energy and could be used to cure headaches. I wonder what else could this stone do?

If I get a chance later I'll look it up properly, but here's off the top of my head [and the first couple of search results on google ; )], so do correct me if I'm wrong: Insomnia, as a talisman against drunkenness, and to align the 6th and 7th chakras. As I say though, I'll try and add some more later. = )

i use amethys if i need to sharpen my mind...i find its a very "in your head" crystal.

other than that i make sure to keep my distance.

Some people use it for cleansing and "raising spiritual vibrations" as well.
I find it to be pretty flexible. The idea that it cures drunkenness dates to ancient Greece. I have also seen people use it to help raise their sensitivity to "read auras" or release energy blockages as well. Some people don't like it because it's energy is "too strong". It can *give* sensitives headaches.

it's hard to explain but it relates to how i said amethyst is a very "in your head" crystal. If i use amethyst much it really fucks me over, it's energies can cause my head to pound and it's even been as bad to have kept me up for a few days. i was worn out and so tired but it really screws with me. it has me going faster than a mile a minute and sends me excessively tense. nothing good comes of it...thats why i only use it out of necessity and only for small amounts of time...and then there was the time in my stupidity i experimented with using 2 amethysts

Hmmm, that's wierd Sobek. Perhaps the Amethysts need a good cleansing and some darkness for a while--but I can safely say that I have never had that kind of response to the sturdy workhorse of purple quartz / amethyst. Overall, to me, it is a stone of protection--not of the body but of the psyche and of spirit. If you feel you are under some kind of psychic attack, amethyst will truly help by diffusing that energy and sending it to the void. Amethyst has the ability to transmute darkness into light and vice versa, light into darkness. It is a permier spiritual conduit for these types of transformations. Like clear quartz, amethyst always needs to be told what to do and cleansed regularly. This is what they call programming---grab your amethyst and say "raise my energetic vibration" and use that one for this reason for a time, then cleanse it. Try a different amethyst and say, "psychic protection" and that will be its function. As you can see kuotestu--the applications of this divine stone are virtually endless. It is also useful to experiment with different kinds like praisiolite--which is green amethyst, or ametrine--amethyst and citrine combined. I have a deep dark purple/black amethyst from Brazil that is called Black amethyst--all I can say about this one is "WOW!"--In my country (Canada) most of our amethyst is deep purple with red cappings at the point--hence its name: Red-Capped Amethyst. This one is a vitalizer that freely gives more and more energy. But it usually "knows" what one can handle and won't exceed it. WHen meditating it is useful to lay out six amethyst points that encircle you to protect the space, your psyche and as jcrowfoot says, to raise the vibration. As the quartz's go, amethyst is by far the most connected to the spiritual realm. Hope this helps. . .

Um, within reason. For example, I don't recommend hitting it with hammers or spitting on it.

Also, they can fade a little in sunlight, but they are less prone to this than, say, flourite.

Amethyst has been a very, very popular stone in Native American Medicine Bags, many find it calming. Wiccans have used it for love spells of Venus with the color Green. It also is good for tissue growth in healing used with Green. There once was a Wiccan love/healing wand, a glass large eye-dropper shaped wand in occult shops. Had a clear Quartz crystal in the narrow end and filled with Amethyst/Rose Quartz. Rose Quartz intensifies or softens the energies of Amethyst, depending on how you're using it.

I have tons of Amethyst and sometimes for healing even cast my circle with 12 large rough stones of it. Amethyst with a Yellow candle is sometimes used for mirror scrying. If the scrying is done to the West, this tends to fog over the mirror first for some people. Amethyst/Yellow candle works in the East in some kinds of psychic work...if you have spiritual eyes like an Owl. But a crystal ball is more appropriate in the East for this type of psychic energy.

how do we distinguish flourite from amethyst? all i know about flourite is its greenish color. how will i know whether I am using an Amethyst or Flourite? or is it same?

Well, the amethyst won't reflect funny colors or glow under a black light.

For me, it's a matter of texture. Flourite to me actually feels a little greasy under my fingers when I handle it. It's also lighter than amethyst, an the purples are easily told apart..

Also, it cleaves differently than amethyst... I mean when it breaks it breaks naturally in flat planes, and flourite tends to grow/cleave in pyramids and cubes, whereas amethyst breaks in more "moon surface" type patterns. Flourite reflects light differently so the shine on it is different.

Flourite is also flexible in terms of color. Flourite's colors tend to be desaturated, or on the grey side of things. Amethysts are quite purple even when they are pale... the only grey amethyst was when I had a "moonstone/amethyst" stone with both fused together.

Any more differences? Hmm.. regarding the greasy touch, I tend to have it as well in my amethyst. Like their textures for me are same. ? does it really count?

Hmmm. On relatively new, highly polished stones, they are hard to tell apart. HOwever, over time, you will find that flourite tends to cloud and wear where you handle it, whereas Amethyst, being quartz and reltively tough, will not.

They use quartz to make some kind of test tubes... at least they did before barocillicate glass become common, that is.

As to whether it matters.... that's up to you. They are your stones. If knowing what they are doesn't effect your workings with them... why worry?

On the other hand, it's nice to know what is amethyst and what is flourite, since flourite will tend to break much more easily... for example flourite can break just from being left in the car overnight in winter.

I find that amethyst has a louder vibration than flourite, and that flourite has more subtle and flexible energy pattern. They are, however, useful for a lot of the same things, it's just that they do them differently, if that makes sense.
