Is this it possible to accidentally hex yourself?

So when my ex left, I felt compelled to make him a protection charm. I cared about him and I wanted to know I did at least one last good thing for him.
I took a necklace he wore often. It was an eagle carved into white quartz. I called a Circle with candles and poured wax from each Element on to the eagle, asking each Element in turn to provide protection and safety for my ex. Lastly, I poured white wax from a small candle I had to the side stating I wanted him to know I would always love him and wanting to seal the charm with my own energy.
Moving forward almost a year now, I feel like I can't let go. I still feel inexplicably bound to him in a too-intate way. I have dreams about him constantly. I dated another guy for a bit. He said I called my ex's name out in my sleep. He's always on my mind.
No matter howany times I've smudged myself, how often I remember how terrible he was to me, how often I realize how happy I am that he's gone, I still feel miserable that he's no longer with me.
Did I hex myself on accident? How do I fix this?

When making the charm, you did something specifically to show you will always love him? That is probably the source of the issue. We can often care for our ex's, even love them in a way after time has passed, but in the heat of a breakup, trying to do a working for him like you did, and doing it as you did, it seems very likely some wires got crossed. You might look into cord cutting rituals. Find a way to sever that link you might have created. In addition to that, an uncrossing bath after such a ritual would be a good idea, traditionally made with hyssop and rue, as it helps to clear blocks from both within and without, in case there's anything else lingering that might be causing this, and it will help clear your own mental blocks preventing you from moving on.

I think doing some kind of cord cutting rite will disentangle the attachment. You are waking to the knowledge that you are no longer the person who needed to hold on or continue to support the link to that individual. Cutting the inhibiting cord does not negate love, which endures. What cord cutting does is free the heart from restricting conflicts.

Smudging functions wouldn't cut you free of an attachment you projected onto the other person.
