Why are some spellcasters more expensive than others? I've met some charging 80-200 and some charging 500-thousands.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
It is an unregulated industry, meaning what they charge is not set by law. If you check the hourly (or retainer) costs for five or six different lawyers for instance, their fees will most likely be quite different. Same with different web designers, real estate brokers, and other self-employed jobs like these.
In an unregulated industry, a person can legally charge almost anything he or she feels should be charged for the service he or she provides. So, beware of the mistake in thinking the higher the fee for a spell caster, the higher the skill and the better the result. It ain't necessarily so.

I didn't realize that people charge money for spellcasting. That just feels wrong to me.

Ha, Snow, you didn't know they charged fees? That's why we constantly have to close the accounts of all those spellcaster spammers we get here because they start harassing the members. I wrote this a while back: viewtopic.php?t=13399 They think a metaphysical board like this is a sitting duck waiting to be exploited financially. They salivate over magic-oriented boards like these.

It just has never occurred to me to charge for something like that. But I'm the kind of person that spends two hours and $110 taking a patient's cat and kittens to the vaccination clinic because I know it won't happen otherwise. I'm getting her cat spayed for her next month.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
I got a thread started where people share their spell caster experiences. Hopefully, the stories told are insightful and instructive.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
I think spell casters who charge outrageous fees go hand in hand with anxious people who want a spell for everything they can't fix in their lives. I see nothing wrong with charging for supplies used and a reasonable fee or trade for time invested, and limiting visits or even refusing chronic clients.
If I want to freely give from my heart to a need, I'm all for that too. I just don't care to be taken advantage of. In all fairness, I've never charged for a trance session or spell. But as I've said elsewhere, haven't done a lot of spells, but I've booked hundreds of trance hours for groups and privately.
When I was learning from a professional medium, waa-ay back in the 1970s, I typed her lectures and notes in exchange. I tagged along with her at every chance. I was in college with no spare cash. My teacher even accepted Green Stamps for her college credit courses. She wanted to reach anyone who really wanted to learn. she did free sittings for study groups, even paid her own gas. She gave a lot.

Yes, I think things are generally getting less community-oriented and more individualistic as time goes on, to humanity's great loss.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
I know in my town, there are many who provide their psychic and magical services and time as a calling, meaning they support themselves with a day job. If you want the service you have to make inquiries through 1 of the Botanicas or the 1 New Age store. It's a hidden community. Some do charge, some don't, & others take free will offerings for the spirits, like a bottle of whiskey and some cigars. It depends on their beliefs. Many various and sundry traditional magical workings rely on familiar spirits cooperation.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
Honestly, I think most on-liners aren't even magical practitioners. They just make a website, make up sh** to tell clients, and make money, period. There might be a few legit ones, but not many. Anyone could be and say anything online. That's just my opinion.On-line is a whole 'nother story. It is inundated with people happy to make claims and to take your money.

Oops, I just edited that quote out because I was feeling cynical, but I agree with you. The showy, performers are faking. They may believe they had a psychic experience once. However, there is a hidden community of dedicated people, well worth hunting for. They don't give you drama.
And I'd bet Snow gives more healing on the job than her nursing patients suspect! That's when you know it's a calling. Helping a home bound or cash-strapped person with cat care relieves the fretful worry, and healing is given room to root. It's all part of the path.

I was curious because I'm nervous about getting scammed, I totally understand the time, energy and ingredients that go into this and everyone has the right to set their price... I just don't know how to weed out the scammers.

Im not sure to be honest. While i would love to use what im learning to make money id feel bad doing something which is purely for personal gain. Like i know there's no rule against it but i don't know it feels kind of immoral.

Re: spellcasters more expensive than others
My personal opinion- they are all scammers. I really have no faith in these people, but that is probably because I am pretty pessimistic.I was curious because I'm nervous about getting scammed, I totally understand the time, energy and ingredients that go into this and everyone has the right to set their price... I feel that spell work is best done by the people directly involved in the outcome of the spell. If it is important to the caster, then more love and energy will go into it than otherwise. If you wanted to cast the spell for yourself, but need help fine tuning it, you can always post your situation and spell here viewforum.php?f=121 and we can help you head in the right direction!

Actually smogie you've hit on something there. If a caster envolves the client in their own problem solving, can be seen as a way to weed out the posers. It's like giving you a fish, or teaching you to fish for yourself.
