Hi there,
this is my first posting on this forum as I have discovered witchcraft and magick only recently even though I guess I have always been receptive for these energies.
My first question is: can you smudge and purify your house even if it is not entirely tidy and cleaned? I'm asking because our house is really big, with a lot of stuff from all of my family members who don't live here anymore, and because due to long lasting illness I haven't been able to keep on track with housework so there is still a lot of thing to do, declutter, etc. I'm really trying my best but sometimes I get a lot of things done and then I have periods where I am just not able to do a lot so things add up again...I'd like to refresh the energy in our house though and wanted to ask if it is okay to smudge from time to time even if the windows aren't sparkling etc.
Thanks for helping me!

Re: Smudging and purifying your house
Hi Cherrypie, sure, we can smudge anytime. It's just more effective to declutter first. Sage smoke can really lay heavily on the sinuses, and lingers so you may want to consider a smudge spray-mist, made with 10 drops of rosemary oil, and 1 oz witch hazel and 1/4 cup water...or any variation, depending on your sensitivity.
I have wonky knees and lungs among other delights, so i qualify for the Good Housekeeping Chamber of Horrors. A couple years ago, a misbegotten, devils spawn can of black olives exploded in a kitchen cupboard and i was forced to empty and wash down the cupboard. One thing led to another, and three months later, I had the cupboard done, working in half hour sessions. I was so happy with the results that I kept de-clutterering after I retired from my job. It takes ruthless will, and a whole lot of "why was I saving this?" And heaps of patience with yourself when 10 more minutes will finish the job but you've only got enough steam left to hobble to a chair and sit down. There are helpful De-cluttering websites out there.

Thanks, SpiritTalker, for this tip with the smudge spray, haven't read about this before! I smudged today with sage, and it does linger, but I like the smell. But I will try the spray next time.
I exactly know what you are talking about with housekeeping! I've become better now as I get better (my main problem was my own mind - I tend to catastrophizing and therefore paralyzing myself, resulting in physical symptoms like mild hypertension, thyroid problems, bad immune system etc., but I've learned how to rewire my mind, still lot of work to do but I've made tons of progress) but the house is soooo big....I get all the daily stuff done like laundry, dishwasher (both more than once a day), tidying up, vacuuming, caring for our pets (a dog and several cats), our chicken coop, my bees, the garden etc. but there is so much other things that are waiting to be done, I never get beyond my daily routine, only very rarely, but I'm working on this. I like Flylady and I still believe in the power of 10 minutes (meaning you can do 2 windows in 10 minutes, or changing the sheets of two beds, or mopping (is that the correct term?)/wasing/cleaning the floor of two rooms, you know what I mean.
BUT: I'm glad that I can clear up the energy in our home whenever I feel the need to and I will celebrate the time when I will smudge a totally tidy, clean house! :wink2:

Bees?! Oh wow! If you ever have time, drop down to the gardening section and share about your bees, if you'd like to. I think they are so fascinating, but I live in the city and neighbors are close. No hives allowed.
Hope you find lots of useful tips and things.

Yes, bees are a blessing and so peacefully to watch (and the smell that comes out of the hive on a sunny day, marvelous!).
I know that some city beekeepers have their hives on the roofs of their houses, maybe you have this opportunity as well? Bees are so endangered nowadays so there shouldn't be a problem with keeping them.

Re: Smudging and purifying your house
City Ordinance requires a 200 foot distance between bees & neighbors and a high barrier. No can do. But thanks for the thought.

Los Angeles has just recently approved backyard beekeeping!

That is a shame. As if those bees were bloodthirsty little monsters only lurking for humans to attack them...City Ordinance requires a 200 foot distance between bees & neighbors and a high barrier. No can do. But thanks for the thought.

We live in rural area here in lower Bavaria and there is the rule that a hive needs to be 5 meters away from property lines so that is okay. And realistic. But if a bee wants to attack you (and when it this the case? When it gets attacked or disturbed by something, or somebody) it follows you quite a while..depends on who is faster.

...and the high barrier....hopefully the bees know that they aren't allowed to fly over that barrier...people are stupid.

Re: Smudging and purifying your house
Hee hee...the barrier is so when the bees leave and return to the hive, they fly high. Go figure.
Re: Smudging and purifying your house
sure, but again, this is nonsense. Anyway, things are what they are and I really hope someday you'll be able to be a beekeeper!Hee hee...the barrier is so when the bees leave and return to the hive, they fly high. Go figure.
