Anyone practice Sigil magick?
Anyone practice Sigil magick?
I accidentally discovered sigil magick, and thought that it is actually quite different than wicca. I'm not even sure if it's related to wicca because I never saw any wiccan practice sigil.
Sigil is kinda like turning your thoughts or desires into a symbol, and you either burn the symbol or keep it for long term effect. It is really direct and require no other materials or rituals. It is also said that it is really effective, and really easy to perform. I personally never try it before and was wondering if anyone had done it, and if it's effective?
If someone had already done this before, after you burnt the symbol, can you reuse the same symbol for the same purpose in the future again? Or do you have to draw another one?

Re: Anyone practice Sigil magick?
I have my own personal symbols for things such as power, wealth, protection, etc. Sigils can be used in wicca just like runes can be used.
Lets say for Ritual A your using a power sigil. And the ritual calls for it to be burned on parchment paper. That same exact sigil can be drawn again on parchment paper to be kept long term for a separate ritual. Or if you want, you could have similar sigils. One for burning, the other not. It's just like wicca, personal preference is what's best.
Practice drawing up your own sigils for some time, study the history and use of them as well.
I could tell you how I draw mine, paper and ink I use. However that would be my magick. Not yours. Catch my drift?

Here's a cool thread about sigil magick. You may find it interesting.

Hey, thanks Yanakhan, I didn't know there is a post about Sigil. I'll definitely going to check that out.

Re: Anyone practice Sigil magick?
Hi, Dualhands, thanks for your reply. I never thought comparing sigil to runes, but they are both symbols, so I guess that makes sense. I definitely like the idea to keep the same sigil for a separate ritual since it will just be easier and more convenient to use.
Re: Anyone practice Sigil magick?
This is really an interesting subject. It's given me an idea, I could have a go at making a sigil into a zentangle.

Hi Red Ember, that is such a great idea! I didn't even know what is a zentangle until I saw your reply. I'm sure we could all bring beauty to our sigil, adding more meaning to it.

I never heard of zentangle too until I saw this thread and search it on google. They're beautiful!

Zentangle is a form of meditation using art. When you look on line at some of the Zentangle inspired art other people have done, you can tell they have spent hours on them. But Zentangle itself is only meant to be done on a beer size mat so that it can be done within 15-20 mins. I just thought it would be yet another way to help with focus when creating the Sigil.

Re: Anyone practice Sigil magick?
After reading this thread, I crushed some reading on this version of sigil magic.
It is interesting. I did some reductions and the results can be really intriguing. Several simple statement reductions ended up looking very much like cuneiform so once I saw that I put them in a double semicircle capsule and they looked a LOT like cuneiform and to a lesser degree Egyptian.
All of the articles I found were low (american) english block print. I couldn't find any instances where people were using intique or artisan lettering. It made me curious if anyone has tried to do this with theban letters or something older.
All of the articles I read gave instructions to write out your intent statements and remove the vowels. Even in the post you made Seraphin, you remove the vowels and repeating letters.
Why remove vowels. I can understand the repeating letter being collapsed or condensed, but why vowels?
It seems to me that a big portion of doing this is to help focus and direct your intent and will, so would using an alphabet from antiquity even further that end, by requiring you to not just write out a simple statement but to consciously apply an alphabet which is for all purposes it's own language, that you already regard with mystery because you aren't so familiar with it that it is "mundane" to you.
I did 3. 2 for myself to test different reductions, and the resulting sigils and then I did another in demonstration to my wife to get her opinion.
She hasn't yet rendered an opinion. I think the part where I held the burning paper until the fire touched my fingers may have turned her away from that particular tool.

Re: Anyone practice Sigil magick?
Sigils are what I primarily use on a day-to-day basis, I've replaced spells with them even.
Edit: Also what you said: "I accidentally discovered sigil magick, and thought that it is actually quite different than wicca. I'm not even sure if it's related to wicca because I never saw any wiccan practice sigil." You shouldn't limit your practices to what others tell you to do/to what others do, hell, go your own way entirely. Invent a new way of directing magic. What relates to your practice is up to you. What I'm trying to say is don't be afraid to carve your own path. There is nothing that "can" and "can't" be used in Wicca... It just is. There's no clear doctrine in Wicca, I mean, unless your coven has some, in which case if they restrict your personal practices I'd seriously consider leaving said coven. Even traditional Wicca (Gardnerian) and all 161 "old laws" won't limit your personal practice, those laws are just to keep a coven in order. If you don't belong to a coven, you've got all the freedom in the universe. I won't go into the pros and cons of being in a coven versus not being in a coven, but I'm just saying. Some will argue that the "rule of three" and the whole "harm none" ordeal are laws... Well, that's up to you. I don't believe the rule of three to be true in any way, it's honestly based on a bunch of misinterpretations of Gardner's "High Magic's Aide" and has no basis at all... What those verses in High Magic's Aide ACTUALLY said are a bunch of different things, for one, it said that you should "space out" your effort, meaning, don't put all of your effort in at once so that you're exhausted, but put that effort in multiples of three, three, because well... I suppose it'd have some sort of meaning due to the fact that we are on the 3rd dimension of existence. It also says that YOU should return magic to fellow witches "three fold" and I think this is where the misconception really comes from, read carefully... It does NOT say that there is some universal law that returns everything threefold, it says that a witch should do whatever it takes to return magic to a fellow witch threefold, meaning that if a fellow witch does something good for you, return that act of kindness threefold, vice-versa. To be honest, I think this addition of the threefold "law" is just to get people from religions with more doctrines to feel more comfortable with Wicca, in reality, it should NOT be necessary to believe in some sort of threefold law of return to harm nothing... Harm none because it is the best thing to do.

Not sure if this should go here, but I use sigils and symbols all the time, especially kitchen witching. If I make a pie, before I put in the filling, I use a popsicle stick or something similar to carve them into the bottom crust, not necessarily for a specific spell, but to infuse my delicious pie with a little bit of Magick and intent. It's quick, easy, and no one will see it after you put in the filling so it's very subtle as well.
