Can I use any candle?
Can I use any candle?
Does it have to be a magic candle or can it be a scented one from the supermarket?
Re: Can I use any candle?
Depending on what you wish to use it for I would say, yeah, any candle. I personally do not care for scented candles because some are nauseatingly strong, but if you wish for peaceful sleep, a lavender candle may be good. However most scented candles are scented with artificial fragrance. You chance of findind a scented candle with say, actual essential lavender oil would be rare.
If you desire a candle to be your lamp of art, which you would light whenever doing work at your Altar, a white one would be fine, if you need a candle for a spell, birthday candles are great because they burn down quickly and since it burns completly one will not be tempted to use it in a different spell.

I never thought about using birthday candles. Except for birthdays. And then it's been numeral candles. That's a really good idea. Now I have something knocking at the back of my mind about numeral candles and wealth spells. Have to wait and see if it gels for me. If it does, I'll post it.

I like tea candles. Short, self-contained, inexpensive, and oodles of colors at several local craft shops.
But that's just me.

I like to use tea candles too! They are simple to keep and burn down quickly. The birthday candle sounds like a great idea!

I also like the candles made for little menorahs, they are perfect size and sometimes you can find em in beeswax, super special

Re: Can I use any candle?
I was at the grocery store looking for b-day candles,
I saw some that were slightly larger than the regular
sized b-day candles. I had to get some...
I found a small brass candle holder at a yard sale, For
the life of me I cannot find candles that fit it ! All are
bigger than the whole...at a loss.

M: Don't the new birthday candles fit? Can you shave the ends? A cheap pencil sharpener will trim a candle.
Tawny Owl, I am a firm believer in keeping things simple and using what comes to hand, as long as you are comfortable with it and have positive associations. It would be counter productive to use anything that gets your fur up. otherwise, we are free to be creative.
