question about omens/ animals apearing

So I have just gotten done doing a fertility spell. I am sitting here browsing the forums when I hear a high meow outside my apartment. Which does not allow animals. I get up hearing the baby cats cry for help. Open the door and it runs rite into my apartment. Just wondering what it could mean on a spiritual level.
I figure since its a kitten that it could be a sign from the goddess that I am on the rite path, or that she is listening.

I'm not really sure what your question is, exactly. So I'll provide a general response.

Whenever something strange involving animals/plants/etc... occurs in my life, I take the time to do a little research (if I'm not familiar with the medium) to see what the event may be hinting at. Usually, it's more of a reminder to rely on certain traits to get through current situations. Sometimes it's insight into challenges.

Each animal has dozens of interpretations, that's something you'll really need to dig into yourself and see which aspect resonates with you.

So what exactly is a familiar in the world of Wicca? I'm really very new and just kind of dipping my toe into this I've read that a familiar is like a protector?

It's an animal that helps you with you witchy ways. For example in Witchy Magic by Lucy Cavendish and Serene Conneeley there is a chapter all about familiars and how they help. Some of them (I think they were mostly cats in these examples) will help their owners dig if they are planting something, some of them will point out (as in make a fuss over) a tarot card to draw your attention to it if it's particularity important in a reading.

And there is often a difference between your familiar and your spirit animal. My familiar is my dog, he gets involved in everything I do (meditation, journeying, spells, reiki, etc). Interestingly enough several years ago a black cat "found" us and we decided to keep her. At the time I thought she was to be my familiar but she has absolutely no interest and keeps to her self.

My spirit animal is a deer.
