This is a true story that I've had bottled up inside of me for a long time, and I thought I'd put it here for people to read and ponder.
It all started when I was about six years old. Every night, I'd fall asleep and have this awful nightmare, the same one every night. The dream went like this-
It was night-time, and I had walked into the kitchen to get a drink of water. All of the lights were off, except for the living room lights- my parents and little brother were watching TV. I walked into the dark kitchen and wandered over to the cupboard. I could hear voices inside the cupboard, the voices of terrified things that had gone into hiding. "Get out of here," they'd say. "They're coming!"
I would then turn around, and out of the darkest corner of the kitchen would come these...robot-type things. They were shaped kind of like salt & pepper shakers, but much more terrifying (does this sound ridiculous yet?). Their voices were crackly and metallic, and they scared me. I tried to hide under the kitchen table, but they kept closing in on me. I tried to run upstairs, but they were there, too. They were also in the living room where my family was. Still, I tried to run to my family because I felt safest with them. Just as I got to them, however, I watched one of the robot-things shoot a beam of light at them out of some kind of laser-shooting armlike projection. The entire room was filled with green light, and then....they were dead. They were still sitting there, appearing unharmed, but they were dead. I cried and tried to wake them up, but I could not. So I ran back into the kitchen and hid in the corner. Once again, the creatures would corner me and stare at me through those awful eye-stalks. I felt sure that I was about to meet the same end as the rest of my family. I screamed for help, but nobody was around to hear me.
That's always when I woke up.
I was plagued with these nightmares almost every night, with no variation. I knew the story by heart, and yet, I would always wake up sobbing and unable to move because I was paralyzed with fear. And yet, I never told anyone. The dreams always felt so completely real, like I was living out another life at night. I could feel everything from the cold wooden floor underneath my feet to the tears that I cried.
My 7th birthday came and went, and I was still haunted by these awful nightmares. I remember that I used to gaze up into the stars at night and beg for help. A superhero, a policeman, a doctor, ANYTHING that could help me. Then one night...it all stopped.
I had fallen asleep and was in the middle of the familiar nightmare again. It was nearing the end, the part where they cornered me for the second time. I screamed for help like I always do, but this time, there was a variation in the dream for the first time EVER.
I screamed for help, and a man came running in from the hallway. I have no idea how he got inside, he just appeared. I can't remember much about his appearance except for the fact that he was wearing a coat of some sort and he had brown hair. He pulled something out of his coat and proceeded to chase the robot-things away. I, still, was a crying mess in the corner. He picked me up and wiped the tears off of my face. He told me that he had come to help me. He then carried me upstairs and put me to bed. He promised that everything was going to be alright and that he would always watch out for me. He sat in my room until I fell asleep.
The dream ended there, but I continued to sleep peacefully for a while afterwards. When I awoke, I felt more content and secure than I had in many months. And do you know what? I've never had that nightmare since.
Well, that's my story...it sounds a bit crazy, now that I re-read it. But still, every word is true and I won't deny that. Comments, anyone?

I used to be chased by flaming televisions. In a cave. No idea what that meant.
