Hello
A circle is a sacred space created by yourself when you perform magical workings. Creating a circle can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.
A protection spell is pretty self explanatory, as it is to protect you or someone else.

To add to what Hedge said, you're supposed to purify the circle with the enegy of the 4 elements, and ask the God/dess to bless it.
