The question I have is probably a silly one, but here I go anyway...
I have a deep interest in Greek mythology and tend to use the Greek Gods/Goddesses when I spontaneously ask for help with things. However I also have an odd attraction to Anubis (I don't know why really). My question is this: Is it right (or I mean to say odd) That I tend to mix Greek and Egyptian mythologies when I am dealing with magic work and everyday life? I know for instance, If I am struggling with love issues, I tend to utter a little prayer to Aphrodite for guidance or to Dionysus when I happen to be drinking. But when someone dies, I always look upon my Anubis statue and ask for them to move on to the afterlife with grace. Death has always been something I accept freely and open up to, allowing me no fear of it in any way, but I don't identify with Hades at all. I only seem to find comfort in Anubis....
Is this alright? or should I probably pick a mythology and stick to it?

Many would say if it feels right then do it. I Agree.
To me the gods and goddesses do not exist, imagine a ball of energy, when you pray to Anubis that energy turns into Anubis, it has the same appearance, characteristics and the same "feel" as Anubis is said to have. When you pray to Aphrodite that mass of energy become Aphrodite and takes on all of Aphrodite's characteristics and powers.
This is why, in my opinion a christian priest can have the same success with healing and exorcism as a wiccan witch etc...Their gods and goddess do not exist in the classical sense, it is like none of them exist and yet they all exist at once. I do not believe this mass of energy is sentient or a divine power of any kind, it is simply energy and it is *us* that makes it into our own gods and goddesses.
In short there is nothing wrong with what you are doing!

Thanks! That is a very interesting viewpoint. I rather like it. I have always thought of the Gods and the Goddesses as being fairly universal, just with different names, but I wanted the general opinion on the matter. Thank you very much shadowx

Your question sparks a common debate here on the forum. Is it ok to mix pantheons? I agree with Shadowx 100%. Also, if you are looking for a god/dess from the Greek pantheon for death other than Hades, you might want to take a look at Hecate. I think her and Anubis might have some things in common.
