An Assortment of Voodoo Rituals, Gris-Gris and Other Stuff
The Bath of Beauty
This is a ritual that I’ve only seen written down in my grandmother’s records. It was one of the last records that she made and at the time she had discovered herbalism and was blending it with Voodoo. These are not the original directions, I have rewritten them, so they are easier to understand. The people that she taught have never seen this ritual preformed before. My “sidekick†performed this bath every day for three days. Her acne problem cleared up, her scars lightened, her dried skin moisturized.
A mambo and I sat down to rework my great-grandmother’s design. The mambo used it with my aide, and it does work. A lot of the revisions that we made are very similar to the purification bath I posted earlier.
The original bath had much less magic involved. It was mostly scientific, but science can help beauty too. Use this bath before you go to bed.
Pre-Bath
1. Before you take a bath, strip off your clothes. Take Aloe Vera Oil, and rub it on every part of your body, so that all of your skin is covered. Allow this Aloe Vera oil to sit for ten minutes.
2. Take alfalfa oil and rub your fingernails with it. Let your nails set for one minute.
Bath
1. You must bath using a basil herbal soap.
2. Use a piece of seaweed as wash cloth.
3. Add the following ingredents to your bathwater: Rose Water (2 cups), a piece of silver, 2 teaspoons of white wine, 1 teaspoon red wine, Angelica Root, Bay Leaves, Dragon’s Tears and Neem.
4. Add a Quartz Rock, Emerald and Ruby to your bathwater (this was my great-grandmother’s orginal idea. I have no idea why).
5. Wash your hair with oil made with Rosemary. Also use rosemary oil as a body wash.
Post Bath
Dry yourself off with a clean towel and go to bed. One girl says it works best if you sleep naked, but the other says it does not matter.
I can explain why each thing is put into the bath if you want me to. Just ask.

Pronouncing Gris-Gris
The gris-gris is actually pronounced “gree-greeâ€.
Color of Gris-Gris Pouches and What They Mean
In Voodoo, as in most witchcraft, certain colors are used to invoke the spirits in certain ways. A lot of fake practitioners, who profit from Voodoo, do not understand this. If someone says they something does something, and it does not correspond with the right color, they are duped.
Most Common Colors
Red - Power
Yellow – Money and Success
Green - Tranquility
Blue - Love
Purple - Spirtuality
Black – Pain/Relief/Repelling
White – Positive Energy
Pink – Death
Uncommon Colors
Brown or Leather – Agriculture and Environment
Grey/Silver – Positive Energy and Repelling Bad Energy
Orange – Life, used to bless child birth (I think?)
Tan – War and Combat (used very little in mainstream)

How to Summon Papa Legba
In Voodoo, Papa Legba is the most important spirit. Papa Legba gaurds the gate between our world and the world of the spirits. At every crossroads there is a gate, and at every gate, there is Papa Legba. He must be summoned in every Voodoo ritual before another member of the Lwa (spirits) is summone, because he chooses who passes between those gates.
On a sidenote: He appears as an old man with a crutch and a cane.
To summon Papa Legba, in the way I was taught, you must take pipe tobacco or cigar and throw it in the fire as an offering to him. He will take 3, 5 or 7 coins if you do not have tobacco products. I have seen someone use a box of cigarettes in a pinch. We often joke that Papa Legba died from lung cancer.
Then people dance in an African style while some people beats out a traditional rhythm. Then a mambo or haugon (a priest or priestess respectfully) chants something to the extent of:
Papa Legba, ouvirier barrier pour moi agoe
Papa Legba, ouvirier barrier pour moi
Attibon Legba, ouvirier barrier pour moi passer
Passer Vrai, loa moi passer m’a remerci loa moin
But, I have seen other variants of this. I use the chant my great-grandmother used, which translates to:
Papa Legba open the gates for me.
Papa Legba open the gates so I may pass through
Papa Legba open the gates and let me pass
Papa Legba open the gates so I may pass through
Papa Legba I give you this offering as a payment
So that you may open up this gate and let me pass
I must speak to the (add name of lwa family or single Iwa here)
Papa Legba open the gates so I may pass through
Sidenote: I've done this so much, that just reading the incantation to proofread, I could feel the gate start to open.
From there, someone or a few people will become possessed, and either fall down while speaking in tongues, have something that looks like a seizure, or start howling out jumbled words. I have seen a number of different results, it depends.
From here, you switch to the next part of the ritual. The next part will depend on what you're trying to do. I'll post how to summon different spirits later.

Reasons Why Rookie Practitioners Should Never Summon an Ougou
The Ougou are the Iwa that in life were warriors. They are called to protect practitioners in a time of war or before battle. As spirits, they are very hard to handle. When not handled right, they can inflict harm, on those who are participating in a ritual.
When I was two years into learning about Voodoo, I was finally allowed to go to a ritual where Ogou were going to be summoned. We had a Hoodoo practitioner that cursed a couple of our members (see the purification bath in the other thread for details). Out of the group that I practiced with, I was the only member to show up.
When handling Ougou, you are supposed to give a certain offerings to them. To save money, the Hougan in charge switched out the expensive rum we were going to offer the Ougou. He also decided to switch out the red rooster we were going to sacrifice to a regular chicken.
We summoned Papa Legba, and then we summoned the Ougou. Once we sacrificed the Rooster and the rum, bad stuff began to happen. First, the fire popped and cinders burned one of the dancers.
As we continued on, one of the drums busted when the drummer was drumming. After that, the ritual was stopped when a dancer keeled over from a heart attack.
Another time, someone messed up a chant, and the winds picked up for several minutes. At this point in time, the fire spread to the stack of wood we had in reserve. We were forced to stop the ritual.
Based off these two experiences, it is safe to say that Ougon shouldn't be handled by rookies.

Thank you!
I know this thread is pretty old, but I was doing some searching online today and stumbled upon it, and I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful information. I started studying and practicing Hoodoo over a year ago, but it never completely satisfied me. I felt I was still missing a relationship with higher powers. As time went on, one of my friends bought me a book on Voodoo, and as I read it, the gods began speaking to me, and my life has taken a huge turn. Because of the area I live in, I don't know anyone else who practices Voodoo, and therefore do not have the opportunity to discuss things with anyone or attend rituals, so I read and study as much as possible and talk with the gods.
Moving on, I just really wanted to take the time to thank you for the wonderful information. You have supplied some amazing material to add to my collection, and there are some things that I am very eager to try.
Thanks again!

I think this thread needs to be sticky because it is one of the best on this site. I would seriously appreciate and value a book and I definitely hope Guardian Worlf writes one.
You are either for Life or against It. There is no in between.
I used to believe in god above. Now I'm filled with so much love.-Erykah Badu after the invocation of the Goddess
May the love that holds eternity at its fingertips kiss each and everyone one you on the lips. May your words bring worlds that bring hope to a world dying to be reborn.

Re: An Assortment of Voodoo Rituals, Gris-Gris and Other Stu
Thank you for this treasury of Voodoo spells, Guardian Wolf. I'm very interested in learning Voodoo and incorporating it into my Craft. So I'm definitely holding onto these and will use them. Thank you.
