Oh ok i guess you are right with how many types are out there i just hope i can find someone who can show me just the basics for now. I have been trying but i feel like i have been getting it wrong. Like my spells just dont stick at least not for long.
Most spells aren't made to be long lasting. They do their job and when you get the thing you asked for the spell is done. There are some spells that are meant to be done long term. Some of these spells require daily work though. Most of the spells I do are meant for an immediate or quick effect. They do their job and then the spell is done. Basically once you get the goal the spell is done and the energy has been dispersed elsewhere.

Hoodoo is good for finding a lot of long term and long lasting spells. The jar spells and other packet or package spells are good for long term effects. Other spells that are good for long term effects would be talismans and amulets as well as mojo bags or other forms of charmed bags. These spells are designed to be long term as you carry them with you with the effect always working.

Basically you should work different spells based on the need. If you need a spell to be long lasting it would be worked differently than a spell that you just do for an instant need. This is because it takes more effort and different techniques to make magic last longer. This is why long term spells typically require repeating the spells and doing actions to the spell on a regular basis.

I have been studing for some time now on my own and have not been able to achieve much. I am looking for a coven or a mentor someone who can explain things to me a bit clearer. Someone who can help me hone my magic.
Witchvox.com is a great resource for finding teachers and groups in your area. You may need to travel a bit. Its not uncommon for students to travel up to an hour or more to get to their teacher or their coven. In fact I have heard of Traditional Wiccans flying across the country just to be able to meet with their covenmates for rituals and training. So you may need to think about traveling a bit to get to your teachers.

Not Voodoo. Voodoo is a religion. Hoodoo is a folk magic practice. While they are related Hoodoo is more open while Voodoo is more specific. I'd suggest looking into different systems and styles of folk magic. Hoodoo/Rootwork/Conjure is one of the systems I am studying now.

You might want to look into herbal charm bags as well. There are witchcraft traditions that use charm bags. In Hoodoo they are called mojo bags or gris gris. Thse are charms that are kept on the body and carried with you so the effect is always going.

To put it simply Hoodoo is an American form of Folk magic. There are a few different strains in the US. New Oreleans Hoodoo is different from Southern Conjure but they are essentially different regional practices of the same system. Hoodoo was created out of a synthesis of African beliefs and healing work with new herbs in the new land as well as working with the saints and spirits found within Christianity or the religion of the slave owners. Hoodoo was created as a way for the slaves (and today African Americans) to hold on to their heritage in a way that allowed them to still honor the Gods and spirits of their home land.

There is a lot of Christian folk magic found in Hoodoo which makes sense. Most of those who practice Hoodoo in the south are Christian of some form. Its a large part of the culture there. Hoodoo is really about using the herbs and items on hand to create positive things in your life. While they do have offensive magical works, in the end for them its really a form of defensive magic.

I was going to mention Witchvox. You can find groups and events in your areas.

Ive been wanting to join a group but have not ventured out to meet any. There are a few stores near me that often hold events but I have yet to attend. Im VERY luck that I live about 30-45 minutes from Salem so there is lots for me to see and do there.

Given that you are earth focused, have you looked into any earth based paths such as Druidry?
