Sweeney Todd

Postby Suppose; » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:03 am

So, I definitely don't think it was Tim Burton's best, but it was really good. Considering it was made for stage, I think they did well portraying it on screen.

Though, I must say (and I won't ruin this for others who haven't seen it), I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I thought it lacked somehow.

I think, overall, it was a really good movie. I enjoyed it. The soundtrack was amazing. (Though, I am a Danny Elfman fan, and was disappointed that he didn't do the music.)

And, of course, I adore Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. I think they did wonderfully in their roles.
Plus, Helena's costumes were the shit (pardon the language).
I love how she can take street corner clothes and awful hairdos and make them hot. (refer to Fight Club-she played Marla)

Anyone else seen it, that has an opinion?

I haven't yet seen it, though I definitely plan to, but I read an entertaining interview with Helena Bonham Carter in which she talks about her biggest gripe with the movie: since she was pregnant only for the second half of filming, she notes that her breasts change size dramatically during the film and worried that it would be all people would notice.

Hmmm I hadn't noticed, I was focusing more on the movie as a whole at the time, but now that you mention it I suppose there was a bit more cleavage. I didn't think much of it though.

In my opinion, if people watch that movie, and all they look at is Helena's swelling bosom, then they need to be thrown out of the theater and into a film appreciation class, or something.
-Not that's there's anything wrong with her pregnant breasts.

:? Maybe I'm too harsh?

I have yet to see it. I am a HUGE Tim Burton fan and I adore Helena and Johnny. I heard it didn't have the ballad of Sweeney Todd though.

I love this movie. My friend has the soundtrack and we sing along every time we are in the car. I am a huge Tim Burton fan and am thrilled at how well this movie is doing.

Yeah. I've downloaded the soundtrack to my computer. I listen to it all the time.
I'm in love with Johnny's voice.

My mom and a couple of friends went to go see Sweeney Todd when it premiered at midnight. I loved it; my school had put on the production about a month earlier, and that was good. Personally, I thought Helena totally stole the show from Johnny, but it was still good. All the performances were good and I loved the vocals. The ending was good, and I thought it was very metaphorical and symbolical.

I finally got around to watching it the other week. I thought it was good and portrayed the musical well. I am a Broadway nerd. Sweeney Todd was never my favorite musical but I did enjoy it. I thought Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were great choices.
