Migraine Remedies?

Postby [Moondaughter] » Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:02 pm

I suffer from some serious migraines. My doctor prescribed me some medicine, and they got better. However, I think my body has become very tolerant to the drugs, and they aren't working anymore. My migraines are returning everyday, and I get spotted vision, and what is the worst is when I get them when I am at school. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about getting rid of migraines. Thanks

Try meditation. I had the same problem, migranes all the time, I didn't see spots, but the flashes of light. I never went to the Dr. for meds, because they usually don't work for me, so I tried meditation.

Its difficult a first when you are in a great deal of pain, but try this:

Lay down in a quiet, comfortable spot with the lights dim or off. Breath in and out at a steady rate (Normaly I count slowly to 3 while breathing in, and the same exhaling, but whatever works best for you.) Let each one of your muscles relax, concentrating on every one. Take all the negative thoughts and energies, including the pain of the migrane, and visualize putting each one of them into a swiftly flowing river, letting it take them away from you.

As I said, this works for me, even though its not technically a remedy/potion/spell.

I would suggest meditating on focusing pink light into your head to ease the pressure. A friend of mine who had severe migranes eases them nicely that way. The "flow" rune, laguz, also works pretty well. It looks like stick that's bent to the left.

Had one last night me sweetie!! ha! My boyfriend gave a very nice massage on my foot...it's acupressure stuff. If you massage the toes, on the sole side inbetween the joints is supposed to be very good for helping migraines.

I do yoga and I find this very calming for headaches. It stimluates the blood flow to the brain and scalp. Grab your hair at the roots and gently move your scalp around in circles...keep doing it for all of your scalp.

Also there's this technique which might help....put al of your fingers at the centre of your forehead. Breathe in slowly and as you breathe out, drag your fingers along your forehead....outwards...so your fingers end up by your temples and roots of your hair. Do it as many times as you want.

Also, did you know that certain foods and drinks can set off migraines. Cheese, chocolate and wine (alcohol). Which is a bit of a bugger really because I live off chocolate. I have an aunt who can't actually eat dairy because she gets very violent migraines from any dairy products!!!

Also, sleep deprivation and stress can cause migraines alot. I went to the hospital for my first one because Ididnt know what the hell was happening. So they said it was a migraine and gave this wonderful medicine called CO-CODOMAL!! It's fantastic...knocked me out for four hours even though I was in so much pain.

If it is stress that's causing it...try to meditate more or do yoga/pilates. All of those focus on breathing and essentially help you to wind down from a day's busy events.

Hope this helps xxxx

I suggest getting your eyes checked too. Even slight eye strain can cause the most horrible of headaches.

I agree with Hedge. I had problems with really bad headaches for the longest time, and they were worse in school. I went and got my eyes checked and needed a lower prescription glasses, which helped tons. If I'm in any kind of lighting, usually florecent lighting, without them on I get really bad headaches and occasionally migraines.

I've got lots of trouble with migraines, which in my case can be from all the reasons that have been mentioned here, since I don't sleep a lot, am really anxious, wear eye contacts for a long time each day... I think birth control pills can be a cause too... I'm gonna stop taking them for 1-2 months so my head can relax a bit.

I find wiccachicken's advice really great, I think I'm gonna try all these suggestions! In the past I've tried easing the headache with energy healing, and I've found that it worked, but only for a short while... Then the pain all comes back...

I used to get migrains so bad I was sick to my stomach. Sometimes the pain was so bad all I could do was get into a totally dark room, lay down and cry.

I started using Taneset (sp) It's a natural product and does take a few days to build up in the body, but it does work.
You can find it in a natural food/drug store.

My opinion is my own. I am willing to share it, though you are not required to accept it.

Ack, migraines. I used to get them constantly, my doctors couldn't figure out what it was. I went in for yet another checkup when my doctor got verrry close and smelled my hair. I freaked out for a second and jumped up, but then he apologized and asked me what perfume I wore. I told him, he said that it smelled like gardenia and that a LOT of people had very intense migraines when they smelled gardenias.

Sure enough, I switched to a blend that was more citrus-y and less floral and my migraines stopped! The perfume that I was previously wearing was mainly gardenia-extract (looked it up online).

So check around to see if there's anything that you eat, drink, or smell (laundrey detergent, new shampoo, soap) that has changed since you started having migraines.

Hope you start feeling better!

I suffer from body crippling migraines. They get so bad sometimes that I vomit.

I used to take medicine, but it's stopped working.

I find that once I feel a migraine coming on, If I drink coffee or another source of caffiene, it really helps.

I also put a cool rag on the back of my neck and breath very deeply and slowly, visualizing the pain leaving my body.

It helps me a lot.

I driunk lemon juice straight to get ride of headachess, however migranes are different, and I'm not sure if the drinking lemon juice would help you at all. Couldn't hurt to try though.

I suppose an infusion or oil burning of any herb good for relaxation and pain relief would be a good idea, like chamomile or lavender. Meditation like how SaraSapphire said sounds good too.
