Satan

Postby Pav » Fri Aug 24, 2007 5:36 pm

I've often wondered about Satan. The kind of being it is etc. I also wondered what people here think about such a being. Is it a fallen angel? or is that just the bibles side of things?

well Satan is supposed to be the ruler of hell as i know it. but i've also hear the hell with the fire and heat and everything was also just a massive fire pit at the end of the street way way way way way back in the day where they burned bodies. so whether Satan is actually a being or not i'm not sure. it could just be a word grayed by time for the person who controlled such fire pits

Malvok: "Make your own own adventure then."

Bob: "Make my own? You can't just make up an adventure!"

Malvok: "Sure you can!"

i think such a being could exist i wouldnt hold much to the bible though. i have this thing i say along the lines of "Everything exists somewhere at some point" and there's also that saying "man created god" if satan and god arent old beings than they'd definately have reached the rank of thoughform over the past millenia

I do believe that he's a fallen angel that lives in hell, but I don't believe other souls can enter it. I think of hell as his bachelor pad/punishment.

Sorry if I'm not making any sense on that.

I see Satan as the shadow self,Satan is classically' the accuser', the questioner and the self who preserves the interests of the individual over the needs of others. The hedonist within. I see evil as a seperate thing 'evil' is a verb to me.What do I mean by that ? Evil is what humans do - to each other. Selfshness can be evil but so can the complete negation of self need -the martyr complex, we all have a little satan within, it's the balance that is important -lower,balanced and higher self.Just my take. Interesting question.

LOL nice Colubra :)

I think He/It/Whatever has His/Its/Whatever own agenda for things. I do believe that maybe he was an angelic being of sort just from what I've gathered from reading and from what I've heard from non-physical friends.

Yep. I actually like the Jewish idea of Satan as the aspect of God who tests and challenges the individual, creates the grit that makes life hard.

Evil is a hard question. I have encountered beings that seemed to radiate pure evil... beings that are inimical to life and everything I hold dear, as well as anything besides wishing to see everything turned to great heaping piles of burning rubbish, or preferably nothing at all. I have not seen lots of them, nor do they seem to come from some hot place beneath the earth. I think that mythology got started thanks to volcanoes. :-)

That there are hell-like damnentions out there... well, I wouldn't doubt it. I have astrally traveled to some very highly odd places, but they didn't strike me as hellish per-se, since everyone there was there of their own accord. As long as I kept to myself the denizens were willing to leave me be. Nor did they seem to be places about to attack the lands of the living... they didn't really seem to care one way or the other.

Like Sobek I'm pretty sure that everything that one thinks of exists on an astral plane *somewhere*. That this one is the most powerful muckety muck around, or even very organized... well.... I'm skeptical. Bad things do happen, but I think that most of it is just cause and effect, or the actions of individuals echoing out into the world. Much badness is simply used as an excuse to see great scheming conspiracies where none exist.

My .03 cents.

Satan is an entity (a god, or other entity, what sort of entity is a debate that doesn't matter enough to me to get into) of the Christian pantheon. As I am a hard polytheist who believes in the possible existence of all gods therefore, I acknowledge that he might exist but that's about it. (note the "possible"...I don't fully believe in the existence of deities/other entities with whom I have no experience)

Well, to some extent, I assume anything could exist. In my personal beliefs though, the entire image of Satan and hell and all of that propaganda was a scare tactic for the church to use. They could say "Convert, repent, baptize your children, follow the commandments, or go to hell with this guy," For me, I have too much faith in karma to believe in a good or bad place. Satan probably exists to some extent, but on what extent, I am not sure.

I've always felt sympathy for Lucifer. I'm not sure if I'd say he's real or anything, who knows. I always saw him as a fallen angel who was wrongfully punished and that him being totally evil is a bunch of crap. Maybe he didn't try to "overthrow" God, could be he just though there should be changes. *shrugs* I don't know, lol. I have written a lot of stories and poems about him though, making him more of a misunderstood creature rather than an evil imp with a pitchfork.

Blessed Be,

I think Satan/Hell is whatever you make him/it out to be. I don't believe in the fire and brimstone Christian Hell either. I suspect that if we were to all list what we thought Hell was, we would each have a different answer.I can also say that in my nearly 40 years, the only truly evil beings I have ever encountered were very much alive and far more awful than any spirit I have ever come into contact with.

I have a friend who believes that Earth is another worlds Hell. Truly bad and evil people thrive here and live well while the average person just toils and is average.

That's what my mom believes. She thinks that we are in hell now and must work our way out by being good people.

I don't agree. There are too many wonderful things in this world for it to possibly be hell.

Satan

Postby [EarthWitch] » Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:41 pm

My christian upbringing taught me that Satan was evil incarnate, the ruler of hell, the bringer of all our misery and suffering. He sent demons to get little children who did not behave and follow the will of god and he was the one who takes the sinners to hell if you were not born again and baptized when you died. He was the one who caused all the evil and bad things that happen to people around the world and the world is in the shape it is in because we let Satan rule our lives He is the giver of the sinful pleasures of sex, and fornication, of glamoury and flirtatious behaviours. He is immodesty and tattos and piericings...he is the reason for all our woes........

that is why I am pagan....hehe

Hell, I was scared all the time as a child...
...not all who wander are lost... (tolkein)

I am the daughter of Earth and Water
and the nursling of the sky-
I pass through the pores of the oceans and shores
I change, but I never die.
