Psycho problems? You mean psychological problems?

I don't think it helps with being stuck in a hotel with a guy who likes knifing people in the shower, if that's what you mean. :-D

Um, it helps you calm down and sleep. I've not seen it used for psychosis or the like. Heck, chamomile helps with anxiety. I don't consider that to be a big psychotropic. :-)

however passion flower cures epilepsy?

*Cure*? Well, no... there is no such thing as a cure for epilepsy, AFAIK. You can, however, treat the symptoms... to my knowledge you can use passion flower tea to help calm down seizures. HOWEVER this is not something you want to go about experimenting with at home. If someone is having seizures they really should see a qualified medical practitioner, a doctor. Also, it takes about 10-20 minutes for the tea to kick in anyhow... most seizures are over with before then. I only do first-aid type stuff with herbs. That's because in order to use them well you need a lot more knowledge about medicine than I have to make these kind of judgment calls.
At most, one could use the tea to prevent some stiffening of the joints and the like after the seizure, or to help one relax afterwards. It's not a cure by any stretch of the imagination!!!

Sleep Spell

Postby [EarthWitch] » Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:26 pm

Chamomile tea is a great sleep inducer.

First get everything ready...
make sure your room is comfortable for rest.
Take a nice relaxing bath or shower, preferable with some lavender bath salts or whatever is pleasing to you.
Next brew you a cup of tea
As it is brewing chant:

Soothing water, calming tea
Bring me sleep that I so need.

Also you can put some dried hops inside your pillowcase.

One more thing...
Have you rearranged or changed your room in any way that may have disturbed the energies? Is there a picture over your bed (head) that is busy and may be keeping your mind active with its energy?

I also suggest cleansing your room to rid it of negative energies that may be keeping you up.

Blessings!
...not all who wander are lost... (tolkein)

I am the daughter of Earth and Water
and the nursling of the sky-
I pass through the pores of the oceans and shores
I change, but I never die.

Yes, passion flower is good for relaxation. You want to be careful with the dose, as it's potent stuff. I'd suggest having it with something else, like mint or alfalfa so you won't be tempted to use a lot. Start with 1/2 teaspoon per cup at first, then up the dose if you don't get the effect you like. It takes about 20-30 minutes to kick in, usually.

Insomnia used to be my middle name, and I swear I used to have that "restless leg syndrome" that they talk about in the TV ads for Requip, but spells are not what helped me actually.

What helped me out is good old-fashioned physical exhaustion. When I started a regular workout routine, followed by a relaxing shower afterwards, I did not have problems anymore. I would rotate the Tae Bo, free weights, Pilates, Yoga, and Interval/Circuit every night. Then shower, usually with shampoo and body wash with lavendar in it (sometimes chamomile). In winter, I'd drink a cup of chamomile tea before bed.

I say that in the past tense because I could not do the hard workouts when I was pregnant, and now I am juggling the care of a baby and a temporarily disabled husband along with all the housework and much of the yardwork... All exhausting enough.

If my mind is troubled and I cannot sleep even with the physical exhaustion, then I read something with a lot of "dry reading" such as a computer repair manual or my old microbial ecology textbook. It relaxes me, gets my mind off my troubles. I can top it off then by relaxation once I am in bed, by focus on colors, flowing water, or some other relaxing visualization.
It's like walking down an empty street, listening to your own footsteps. But all you have to do is knock on any door and say, "If you'll let me in, I'll live the way you want me to live. And I'll think the way you want me to think." And all the blinds will go up, and all the doors will open, and you'll never feel lonely. Ever again.

Sleep

Postby Grim Wraith » Sun Oct 14, 2007 12:50 pm

I've found it easier to sleep when there is no light, not from a crack in the door, a clock, red LED lights, window, nothing. As well as no sound, from outside, a loud fan running in the room, other people. If you have someone that has their place in the same bed as you, try a dreambag of dried lavender leaves, camomile essential oil, as well as maybe a dragon's blood/lavender/or sandalwood incense (Dragon's blood is different with different people and their senses/mind set/ aura, sometimes it puts people to sleep while others it perks them up, you may not want too much lavendar around if their is a guy around, and sandalwood smells a bit musky). For me the lavendar incense and the bag of lavendar under my pillow really helps me sleep.

i have this feeling that i cannot sleep with light (even the tiniest spark). What if i mix rose oil, lavender, and a bit of sage.. will it work?

Some other random sleep advice. Being the poster-child for sleeplessness, there are some things that I've noticed over time that help.

1. Find time during the day, possibly in the morning, or over lunch, for rumination. This way, you have time to think about what you need to do for the day, and time to think about the things that bother you. If there's anything that keeps me awake at night, it's all those things I didn't do or think about that day.

2. Get some exercize during the day. Walking and bike riding are good.

3. Go to bed at least an hour before you need to get to sleep. It can take up to three hours for me to settle down to sleep at night, so if I know it's vitally important for me to get up the next day, I tend to go to bed early so I can get all that tossing and turning and staring at the ceiling out of the way and still have enough time to sleep.

4. Make a list of things to do that involve your concerns for life, so you feel that you are making progress even on those things that shouldn't bother you. Even doing the smallest thing for that sort of problem can be the difference between sleep and bleary eyed days.

5. Stop all interesting work two hours before bed. Do some meditation, or yoga, or chat with friends or family... spend time with your kids.

Something relaxing but doesn't suck you in.

On the other hand, you may not have an anxiety disorder. :-)

This one's a good idea, thanks jcrowfoot

Placing an amethyst under your pillow is supposed to help you sleep well. Unless it's one of those big, pointy ones, in which case you're likely to spend all night going "Ow!"

Amethysts are also supposed to ward off anxieties, nightmares and oversleeping. A small tumbled stone should work fine if you cleanse and charge it first.

Dorothy Morrison had a spell in 'Everyday Tarot Magic' that used the four of swords tarot card. I've used the same card to help charge sleep related items for sleep spells.

All that being said, hot milk with a little cinnamon works as well as any spell I've used :D
