My father was declared clinacally dead for two minutes, but I've never asked him about it. I'm going to now, the next time I see him. He's very open with this forum, so I'm sure he wont mind sharing if he has anything to share.

A friend of mine was in an accident nearly 2 years ago, she's still healing from it. She has 'died' at least 6 times now. She tells me that those times she saw the 'tunnel of light' thing and she loved it, wanted to go there. But she kept getting the message 'not yet'. Now she just visits astrally once in a while. I never ask her what she sees there.

I was technically dead when I was about four after drowning, but I can't remember details too well. Due to the bad experience I've tried to block it out. I think I was dead for about 5 minutes?

And I vaguely remember seeing my physical-self and getting scared and confused.

I'm working on doing meditations on it now to see if I can unsuppress anything...

So I'll probably post more as I remember more.

I almost died when I was born, which.. Obviously.. I don't remember :). Aside from that, the nearest I've been is being knocked unconscious for quite some time after I fell over and hit my head on a metal pole.

All I remember is standing up, steadying myself, then everything went.. Err.. 'blurry', for want of a better word. Everything I could see was in psychedelic florescent colours, as if somebody had taken a spray can to the entire world haha. I stumbled to the First Aid room, then passed out. Next thing I remember I wake up, and I'm in the car being taken to hospital. Not death, but still scary none the less.

Must admit, I never saw any bright lights or tunnels, though. I've been unconscious a few other times, though none as bad as that, and again.. Nothing. Although I wasn't dead, so.. *shrug* :).

Thanks for sharing your experiences guys, they make interesting reading!

I used to be on a swim team and while I came up to breathe, the girl doing a lap in front of me kicked water in my mouth the exact moment I breated in. I choked on the water and stopped breathing for quite a while. Weird thing is, no one came to help me; everyone was too shocked (yes, even the lifegaurds).
And there was another time when I was a baby (so obviously I don't remember this; my mum told me the story) I almost fell down onto concrete from the third floor of the house I was in. Since I was still only a baby, my skull wasn't fully devolped yet and the fall would've killed me instantly.

I think it scares the majority of people, so I guess there's some comfort to be had in that you aren't the only one to fear death?

You just have to try and not worry too much about it - live for the moment, and live life to the greatest extent you can. That way, at least you know you've done the best you can in your life, and have no regrets when it is your time... Although that'll be a very long while off, I'm sure of it :).

That is great advice that I agree with and try to do. But it still scares me; no one knows exactly what happens after death, which is what scares me.

But I guess the only thing we can do is live our lives to the fullest and have faith.

I suppose not knowing is better than knowing something negative...

"no one knows exactly what happens after death, which is what scares me."

thats what intrigues me most about death. i look forward to death in such respects but i think i can hold off on it lol. all in good time. i dont think death is something one should be scared of. all things die. but i think "how" could warrant some concern, we can't all die peacefull surrouded by moping loved ones now can we.

"I'm not afraid of death, but I don't want to be there when it happens."

and...

"We are all going to die. The trick is, not to rush it."

Having seen ghosts, I don't know how I feel about death. Part of the problem is that when I'm most worried about dying is when I think that all my spiritual experience is the result of delusion. :-)

I've had a few near-death experiences actually. Once I nearly drowned and the other times have been health problems, complications in surgery and stuff like that. All I'm really going to say is although I know death is nothing to be afraid of I'm not looking forward to it either.

I have done some crazy stuff (suicide attempts, drug abuse) but none was ever meant to end my own life, just get rid of the pain, physical and mental.

The fact is death comes for us all, and nothing we can do will prevent it or even postpone it, but that doesn't mean we have to rush it. I don't beleive people exist for no reason other than to exist. We have some purpose for being here whatever that purpose may be. If we rush through life, and end it before it's end should come we may not serve that purpose and noone can really tell what will happen to us then.

I had a discussion about this once with a friend who's father had been declared dead for seven minutes, and a few fundamentalist christians. My friend's father was dead for seven minutes and saw nothing. No bright light, no image of Jesus, nothing. My friend took this to mean that nothing awaits us after death. One of the Christians said that my friend's father had not been saved - and he would not have gone to heaven had he died then. At that point, I was Christian, and I said that I thought it was because it was not his time to go yet, and God knew it. It still kind of shocked me, though.

This kinda reminds me of something the christianity-teacher in grade school told my friend when she was 7 years old (yes, christianity is an actual subject in schools here). "Only those religious can go to heaven". My friend was shocked by this and asked about her mother, since her mother is an aetheist. "No" said the teacher "your mother will go to hell".
At that age she was traumatized to hear something like that and today she opposes all religion, even more so than her mother. This does not have to surprise anybody of course but sadly there are more cases like this. People don't seem to realize that children are fragile and that letting them live in their childish beliefs may not be a bad thing, those beliefs will later develop into the person's faith and superstitions, trying to alter that at a young age will often have opposite effect than what is intended originally.

I'm sorry, you got me ranting with that post, but some people can be so profoundly stupid sometimes.... I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, but this is true.

A news reporter said on the TV news tonight something about the grave of Saint Nicholas where he had been buirried since his death.... the news are not late enough for little children who beleive in Santa to be in bed yet... I got so mad, this was just the last straw... Santa, God or the afterlife... it doesn't matter, let people have their own beleifs and stop trying to convert everyone... and this goes not only for christians but everybody.

I became ill with a life threatening disease when I was 28. I almost died in my sleep. I remember that Angel of Death stopped me and told me it was not my time and that I should return to my body. You would think that should scare me, but instead, I felt so very sad that I could not pass through. I have passed a couple of other exit points as well, but this is one that I remember very clearly.
