Gay Rights.

Postby tallfemal » Mon Sep 18, 2006 1:05 pm

I am a supporter of gay rights, but I am not gay. I think people should have a right to live their own lives the way they see fit.

So my question to everyone is Do you support gay rights? Why or why not.

i support, i think its something out of a persons control what thier into like some will say it's a life style choice but none of the gays i know say it was a choice. and in reality who really cares what they like and what they dont. they are people just like the rest of us and deserve everything we do. who cares what God thinks, he doesnt seem to be the most intelligent of beings true or false.

I've known too many and have become friends with too many not too. I support gay marrage because it does not scare me, I'm too comfortable in my own sexuality to let it bother me.

Now gay divorces...that idea terrifies me. Imagine two of the most flamingly gay guys you've ever seen. Now imagine them in a bitter divorce...Scary huh.

I SUPPORT 100 PERCENT

People have the right to choose, it's not up to someone else to control what people can and can't do.

Sorry, I'm an anti-discrimination fanatic.

thank you all for your opinions.

To kayako, I support gay rights 100% too. People cannot control whether they fall in love with the opposite sex or the same sex. bush needs to get his mind out of the 50's and into this day and age. if a gay woman were to hit on me first i'd tell her that i am striaght and second that i'm flattered. (Sorry rambling)

to wolfwitch, that was soo funny what you said about gay devorces!

blessings to you and yours,

If it doesnt effect my life, it is not my concern. If gays want to get married, I will be glad to sign the petition, vote for the law to be passed, or march with them. It doesnt hurt me, it doesnt kill off millions of people, doesnt make my life worse, if it makes them happy, that is good enough for me. I have plenty of gay friends, and I am happy when they are happy and found people they are in love with.

So I guess my point is, I support it becuase gays have just as much rights as all of us.

Sorry for my ignorance ... but I take it there is something bout gay marriages in the US now ... ? Gay marriages are already legal in many places in Europe .. oh ya - totally support gay marriages unions .... my cousin who is more like an older brother to me is gay and through him I have met alot of wonderful gay ppl ... actually at times I even prefer hanging out in gay places cos you dont get pervy guys hassling you and hitting on you all night ... the gay guys compliment you but then thats as far as it goes !

my partner and I support gay marriage :)

Moondance- in most states in the US gay marriage isn't legal, it is in a few states, but other states aren't obligated to recognise the marriage. Most of the other states DO recognise civil unions.. which give some of the same benifits of marriage but not all, so, it makes it hard for us.. insurance issues, will issues, hospital visitation, etc.. it sneaks into your every day life quite easily that civil union and marriage aren't the same thing,

I don't understand why its such a controversial issue in the first place. In 2004 it was one of the major platforms of both canindates. It is purely controversial becuase of religion.

If the government is suppose to be a seperation of church and state, why is religion being considered for subject that should rightfully be passed by law if everyone is considered equal?

It seems people focus so much on the "sexuality" part that they forget there is so much more to gays than sex. They are also good people, artists, businessmen, writers, military officers, cooks, friendly neighbors, good PARENTS, inspiring teachers, etc.

The subject shouldn't be so controversial. We are all humans. That should be good enough. I can't wait until aliens become a part of our society or andriods/A.Is that are so far advance they can be considered real people. Than we are going to see these same subjects come up all over again. Should aliens have rights and marry humans? Is there a human soul in some highly sophisitcated Artificial Intelligence and should we consider it a person?

the reason it is so controversial is because sacred texts of the dominant religions of the world( Bible, Qur'an etc.) and "God" say that gayness(for lack of a better word) is immoral and is against nature. and people such as Bush of america and Howard(for we aussies) rely alot on the votes of the religious to "stay in the seat" so he uses these holy texts as a basis for thier campaign and the religious community eat it up!

thats a bit of a generalisation on my part lol but still somewhat true!

oh ya, I know about that. But its still kind of a ridiculous platform. There were better platforms to work with that are actually more important. This shouldn't have been a "big struggle" issue on the canindates lists. People just don't understand unless they have gay friends or family members they actually care about. :\

It's a little known fact that the part of the bible that actually says "man shall not lie with man as he does with woman, as it is an abomination in the sight of the lord" (or something along those lines) also says exactly the same thing about people who wear mixed fibers, people who keep food for more than 3 days, people who have ever eaten pig or shellfish, and lots of other things. The book (Lectivus, or something like that) is basically a big list of things you are and aren't allowed to do (mostly things you aren't). Among the things you are allowed to do is selling your daughter for prostitution and keeping slaves, as long as they're from a different country. Lovely.

it's really obvious that most christians never actually sit down and read the book that their religion is based on, but just pick and choose the bits that suit them.
