symbolism of the Eye

Postby egregorewitch » Thu Jun 22, 2017 1:34 am

wasn't entirely sure where to post this, but

basically, for the last maybe 10 months, i've been seeing the recurring symbol of an eye everywhere. the importance of the image of an eye has become so strong.

I see tons of them in my dreams. things like, i'll be walking on a rocky cliff (like the ones on presque isle in Marquette MI) and eyes will open in the face of the rock, bloodshot and all focused on me. these dreams aren't "nightmares" because I don't feel any fear or dread, mostly confusion.

I've been using them in my art at every opportunity. Being an illustrator by trade, i draw almost every day and recently my art has changed drastically. I love to draw faces, i sometimes put three, six, even eight eyes on a single face.

while my friend and I were on break from college, she offered to give me a tattoo and i immediately said i wanted an eye, on my left ankle. she tattooed it on me that night.

generally, what i'm posting this for is to gain your insight on what this could mean for my path? is there something i'm missing, that this sudden affinity for this symbol could lead me to a deity or power?

i've attached one of my illustrations, you'll see what i mean. don't post it anywhere else please.

I'll start by giving some background. In every corner of the world we see the eye , from the texts of Imhotep to Hindi and Punjubi symbolism and into the AmerInd popultions. It's used as a proxy for someone who can't be immediately there to guard or witness. Other times it can reference the development or strenghtening of your "sixth" sense, and/ or "clear sight". It could also be psychology based. Your subconscious mind trying to get your attention about something - personality conflict, someone you can save from harm, somebody ripping you off. Wish I could be more helpful.

I used to have an obsession with eyes too. I drew them everywhere and in any shape since I was like 12. I figured it was just an obsession and never thought much into it.

Fast forward to 24, and I'm learning that I have a unique insight ability that centers around scrying and something like an eye in my heart. It's hard to explain, but by using this, I access all kinds of things about the target I'm viewing.

I say that to say that there is something your subconscious is trying to make you aware of. And it could be important to your growth.

I think the others have already said it well...work with your intuitive, inner seeing, 3rd eye, the all seeing eye of the spirit/soul.

You should probably also research the evil eye: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_eye

The concept goes back to the ancient Sumerians 5,000 years ago, and is now a semi-universal concept around the world. It's regarded as the evilest thing, but also a monster and a curse. Many things are used to ward it, including other eyes. Especially, the Nazar eye which is modeled after a fish eye because those are believed to be immune to it. Another ward for it is the eye of Horus and marking your eyes with kohl like they did in ancient Babylonia and Egypt.
I am the Earth, The Sun and the Stars
And I am the also the Moon
I am all animal and birds,
And I am the outcast as well, and the thief
I am the low person of dreadful deeds,
And the great person of excellent deeds
I am Female. I am Male and I am Neuter.

I'm sorry, I should have made that clear. As in "clear sight"-the sight of Horus. I shouldn't figure that everybody has heard of Imhotep.

E-Witch*if I can' call you that*, you're an amazing artist!!!

For me the eye represents a couple things

First. It's how I know entities are trying to converse

Second. It represents life and consciousness. More consciousness though

Third. My favorite anime, Naruto, has anime whole theme and development based on the Eye (Sharingan)
