Good Websites for Cloaks?

Merry meet to all. Today my wife and I went to the renaissance festival here in Missouri, during our time there I came upon some very beautiful cloaks that I would have loved to have. The problem was that they were all around $250 dollars, which I could not afford today. Considering I will not be able to come up with the money before the festival ends let alone make it all the way across the state to get there again, does anyone have any good website recommendations for cloaks? The one I really liked was made out of what felt like denim/khaki material with a hood, that closed across the neck/chest area with a broach and had a hood. Any advice would be highly appreciated. There are also patterns at fabric stores in the costume section of the books. Maybe give it a try.

I have seen some really nice ones on Etsy. Though they might not be 250, they will probably be pretty pricey.

I did however see some nice ones on eBay going for about 50-60.

*Sigh* This makes me sad because I had one that I made with help from my mom and husband (My mom had a sewing machine from when we were kids) . The cloak we made was reversible with hunter green flannel on one side, and navy flannel on the other, with an oversized hood that draped. A little too warm for the climate I live in, but fun none the less. I'm sad because I lost it. We live in a fairly small house, so I'm certain it's not here.

Aaaanyway, before I decided to make my own, I nearly bought one from this site... http://customcloaks.com/reversible_cott ... cloth.html. I haven't used them, so I can't vouch for them, but they were the most appealing to me when looking for something affordable. In fact, I may look over the site again. I think their broadcloth material will be better suited for my warmer climate, and I just don't have the time to make another one.

On the subject of making my own does anyone have a sewing machine that they would recommend? I've been looking for one to get my wife for Christmas, she's been wanting one for some time now, but I want to find one that will be able to handle, khaki cloak material and denim as well.

You can't go wrong with pretty much any brand of machine you get for her, really. For working with heavy weight fabrics you described, it's not so much a matter of the machine make/model as it is a matter of using the right needle size, presser foot attachment, etc. All new machines come standard with a small assortment of such accessories, so she'll be good to go with whatever machine you choose.

Some new, computerized sewing machines can run into the thousand$$, and cost more than a base model new car, haha. No kidding. More times than not, the person gifted with such a machine never uses all those bells and whistles, let alone the machine itself, so it gets sold at the next garage sale...after having gathered dust in the closet for years. Best to get something very simple and not intimidating, and if she finds she needs more capacity later, upgrade.
