This is one of my favorites, and is one of the first rituals I ever performed. With my magick, a lot of it is improv. Following the flow of energy and unifying with it, the way the elements flow and change with their environment. But this is one that I think will stay more or less the same.
You can do this anytime, but I felt the highest energy when my period landed on a new moon, which it rarely does. Usually, I cycle with the full. But this was wonderfully moving, and felt so natural, so peaceful that I just had to do it and write it down.
Here goes.
1. Draw water for your bath. Make sure it’s warm, so steam fogs up the mirror. Put on some soothing music that resonates deeply with you. Something slow and powerful with drums and stirring, lyric-less vocals or gentle woodwinds.
2. Gather your soap, incense, candle, and small bowl. Soap dish is optional if you have bar soap. Make sure the bowl can float on the water. In addition, gather a vinegar or alcohol and your favorite essential oil blend. Towel and bathrobe optional. But, the nice thing about this ritual is you’re already skyclad, so why bother?
3. Arrange your materials in whatever way you like. Go with what feels best for you.
4. Turn out the lights in your bathroom. Is that music still playing? Great. Make sure the floor is clear of obstacles beforehand. No faster way to ruin a wonderful bath spell than by an awkward emergency room visit.
5. Light your incense, Light your candle, uncap your soap, and pour a small amount (1/3 c) of vinegar/alchohol into your bowl. Fill the rest of the way with cold tap water. Ponder the elements as you do this; soap for earth, incense for air, candle for fire, the bathwater for water (obviously), and the vinegar potion for spirit. You are essentially casting a circle, here.
6. This space is supposed to represent the womb. The dark warmth, the sensation of floating in your bathtub. The comfortable, aromatic scent of the air brings peace and calm with each breath. Sink into the water. Let it cover as much of you as possible, just allowing your nose above the water. Breathe. Ponder. If you feel like it, you may keep your lips above the water and chant, or hum. Hear your breath echo in your ears, your heartbeat, the sounds of your gut, magnified by the water. Let it envelop you. Let it be all in your space. All the better if that music you’re playing has drums that match your heartbeat. You are going back in time. Back to before you were born physically into this world. You were a child inside your mother. Imagine the love of your mother, and allow that to translate to the love the Goddess feels for you.
7. Imagine how you came to be there. You entered into this space with confidence, and at the same time, peace. Imagine the courage it took to come down this path. Go through your past. Remind yourself of why you set the intentions you do. Draw on that strength as you rest in the darkness. If you acknowledge him, imagine how you can draw on that courage from the God. How his watchfulness, his protectiveness has been your shelter throughout your life, whether you were seeking it or not.
8. Now, you’ve invoked the God and Goddess. Congrats. Do you feel that warmth, that gentle heaviness pervading your entire being? Good. Now scrub. Start with the bar of soap at the top of your scalp, working slowly down your body. Your crown, your neck, across your chest and back, your stomach, your pits and privates. If you feel like washing your legs, do so. Imagine the past being erased from you, just as the light slowly disappears from the moon once a month. The past 28 days were nothing. No hurt, no pain, no sorrow can reach you right now. There is no tomorrow, no next week, no appointments, no schedules, no nothing. There is now. There is your peace, your calm and undisturbed heart, resting in the still warm water of this magick womb.
9. Take a meditative pose in the water. Whatever’s comfortable. Place the bowl so it floats in the water between your knees. Imagine sinking into the water. As you are sinking, imagine you are descending from the stars to the earth. However you feel like. As you reach the ground, picture your ideal place. This space is where you have always wanted to be. It is safe, bright, beautiful. It can be a castle, it can be another world, it can be a meadow, a forest, a mountaintop, an island, a spaceship, whatever. But it has to be the landscape within your own heart. The thing you see every time you close your eyes. Your deepest and most sacred wish. Something that gives you hope.
10. Imagine yourself. Do this as you feel appropriate. Imagine your arms, your legs, your toes, your hair blowing in a gentle wind. Picture your raiment, if any. Feel the fabric (or air) on your skin, hear it as it moves. You still hear your heartbeat, your breath. The music that surrounds you.
11. Stay in this place as long as you like. It is, after all, exactly where you want to be. Wish for strength. Let this vision take you where it will. After all, it is yours. Wish for dreams. For peace. For love. For comfort. See your wishes come to fruition in your internal world. When you feel ready, complete the ritual.
12. Stand up in the bathtub, taking the potion in your hand. Add the oils, any crystals or herbs you’d like, and pour your intentions and energy into it, wholeheartedly. Imagine light, drawing it from the four elements in your bathtub, up through your feet, through your heart, and down your arms. Light slowly trickles into the potion, filling it until it glows.
13. Pour it over your head, slowly. Let the cold water refresh your mind, give you clarity and inspiration. Let it run through your hair and drip back into the bathwater. Make sure you get the underside of your hair as well. This potion has a twofold function-One, to remove any soap buildup you have on your hair from the scrubdown earlier. And two, to imbue you with whatever intentions you put into it. Imagine the light from the potion soaking into your crown chakra, trickling down your spine and into your body, your soul. The light in your heart spreads into your entire body, filling the dark space with light.
14. Extinguish the candle and incense, cover the soapdish/cap the soap, and place the bowl upside-down. Drain the bathwater. Be sure to thank each for giving you guidance.
15. You are ready. Step out of the bathtub, and open the door, welcoming in the light. You are reborn into the new month. You draw on the love and courage the Divine give to you, and go out to face the world anew.
That’s it, really. Magick bath that is really pretty simplistic, but makes me feel my strongest and most grounded. Blessed be!

Like I said, I do a lot of stuff on the fly. This was basically my bath routine before I chose witchcraft. I just incorporated some magick into it.

Beautiful! This is precisely what it is all about. Spiritual practice is an art form and creativity promotes growth.
