What's Your Spellcaster Scam Story?

Because I wanted a chuckle, and I had a few spare moments on my hands, I once met with a "Psychic-Readings-for-$5" person. Sure enough, due to "all that negative energy causing bad luck" around me (said by the reader with a very scared, concerned expression, lol), she informed me that it turns out what I reeeaally needed, instead, was actually $500 worth of "cleansing work" (which probably would have turned into $5,000 before long). Who'd'a thunk it, right? Of course, I gasped with an equally scared, concerned expression, "Oh wow, is it that bad? Really?!" I remember I kept looking her straight in the eye, but she kept blinking, or looking away, or looking down or somewhere else. Lying to someone who knows you're lying ain't so easy, lol.

Does anyone have a real horror story about getting swindled by a spellcaster, or seeing others get duped by them? Do share! We get a lot of people asking about this, so your experience will be instructive (and hopefully, preventative).

Thanks.

Recently I saw a "healer" on TV who was sending her energy to everyone who called for 3€/minute. It was so funny to watch her!

I especially laughed when a man called to get rid of back pain and she asked him do you feel better? And he said no! She got nervous and started shouting DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW?! And he said no :-) she went mad and shouted loudly and the man hung up :-p

I don't know why those people called because she was so nervous and didn't look emphatic or powerful at all. She was more like an old clerk in a socialistic office.

I went to a palm reader once when I was in a desperate situation and was looking for outside guidance or opinions. She is a gifted reader, but also a gifted scammer. She told me that there was an entity working against me, I was cursed, and she needed to light 7 candles to figure out where the ill-will was coming from. This would cost me $70, $10 for each candle. She would stay up and watch them all night she told me. I paid her $70 and came back when she told me to. At this point she had an idea of what was going on. It seemed plausible. But at this point she needed $200 more for spell work to reverse the curse. She also advised me to find a red envelope and begin sneaking money into it each week behind my husbands back. I would need $400 in the envelope, but she didn't tell me what I would do with it. She said once I had the $400 saved up, to come back and she would be able to advise me on how to complete the spell myself. She told me the most important thing I could do at this point in time was to not tell ANYONE that I was working with her or paying her. That any interference even from a friend or trusted family member could ruin the spell. Haha. I didn't give her any more money or go back to see her after she told me I needed $600 more.

I can't believe I paid her the $70 in the first place. I'm normally a level-headed person. But I was desperate. Maybe depressed. It's such a terrible thing to scam upon people in these situations but I can see how it works because it happened to me.

I've never had it done to me but I remember when I was around 11 or 12 my sister got obsessed with the telephone psychics and kept calling them to only get her phone bill and it was over $1000 due to it. She had to ask my mom for the money to pay it.

I paid for a psychic, and decided to test him. He needed something of mine. So I brought him the scarf I had had for two years. He got the past wayyyy off, because I'm gay. But I had that scarf during my confusion and lived with my girlfriend and her parents.

The future reading he gave me was a crock too, and he tried to tell me my grandfather was present. I know when my grandfather USED to be present. Long story, but he used to send us (family) the smell of his tobacco. One night my grandmother had a dream. It sounded so beautiful. He came to her and they experienced their first date together again, she became lucid during the dream and got to say her goodbyes, after he told her it was time for him to move on as he was sure we would all be ok.

He was off in a lot of his readings apparently, and tried to swindle (scam) a few weak-willed people. The saving grace was the lady who owned the shop was extremely upset by this and tried to reimburse us the money we had paid out of her own pocket. Myself and others refused as it was obviously our own choice to go with him, and she had made us aware it was her first time working with him.

Love, light and peace,
FL

This thread makes me think of Lucy and her little psychiatrist booth. At least she was only charging 5 cents. I got scammed a metaphysical fair some years back. A woman was doing aura portraits. My $20 portrait that I agreed to, ended up being $90, because she just kept adding to it. It was also completely inaccurate as far as what was happening in my life. I did better gambling in Vegas. I won $2.81 and stopped there. It was fun to play a slot machine for a few minutes. I saw people sitting for hours at the slots. It was actually rather sad.

I don't have one.

Of course I'm a pretty hardcore skeptic, so the 2 times I've worked with a medium, I felt both events were legit and helpful.

Me neither. I'm pretty good at sizing up people, and the readings I've had were likewise "legit and helpful," very much so in fact.

When I was in an emotional state of withdrawal I sought a reader. I thought I was being smart about it, trying different readers with similar, albeit slightly different questions concerning my problem, I stick with one.

What I got out of it was a longish road of heartache and longing, causing me to waste precious time on a person whom I later realized was beyond me. I feel they strung me along, knowing my situationand he just because.

Lol some funny stories here! On a more serious note I hate these scammers, taking advantage of vulnerable people. I wonder if they even hold any spiritual beliefs cos if so they should be more worried about their karma

If you want a laugh at these vultures' expense try looking up youtube videos where they get caught out on live television. So much cringe

I was at this paranormal convention and there was a lady, a supposed psychic medium, who did drawings of people's spirit guides. Her booth was situated right opposite the food court and I went for a super spiritual portion of french fries. I watched her work as I was eating. She was surprisingly fast as she "processed" 3 customers while I was eating. All 3 of them got the exact same drawing of a Native American chief, feathers and all. I didn't know whether to feel upset at her obviously scamming these people or impressed that she could draw the exact same portrait 3x in a row!

When I was 17, I went to a palmist. She told me I'd have 3 marriages, 2 kids and a serious car crash.
All bogus, but freaked me out.
Also, if you go on fiverr.com -- there's a ton of scamming people offering to spell work for you.

There's a well known psychic in Atlanta who you'll hear on the radio give readings (it's amazing how many soulmates there are) around Halloween. Turns out she had at least three, possibly four different personas in Atlanta alone and when I started doing research online, I found her on scam sites up and down the East Coast, all with the same stories. I got curious and ended up looking up property records and all the houses belonged to the same person. This all came about because I went to see the one down the road from me after a breakup and of course a $40 card reading turned into a $1000 cleansing of "negative energy surrounding the both of you" etc etc. Needless to say, I paid for my reading and left.

At the ren fest last year, I got my palm read while Cody was out and about shopping for a new knife. The lady reading my hand smiled and said "Your soulmate will reveal himself to you before the month is over." I responded with "yeah, I know... my fiancé flashes me all the time, he is such a perv." She didn't know what to say after that, so she started telling me that I had a long and healthy life with many children ahead of me.
