I have always found that Wicca was a free flowing type of experience, and as such I just do as i please, adapting spells and rituals as I go. I was "taught" by a good friend but we were in high school and weren't very serious about it so now, ten years or so later I'm just doing my own thing. I question it a lot, though. Due to doing things alone I tend to miss a lot of holidays and whatnot but what I really worry about is doing things "wrong" by accident. I feel fulfilled by what I do accomplish, can that be enough? I'm not one for overly complicated rituals or overt action, mainly because my family does not know about my spirituality. I tend to do things in the middle of the night or make it seem like I'm doing something normal. Sometimes all the hiding feels like I'm dishonoring the Goddess rather than worshipping her. For example, I used to have an altar but it seemed suspicious so I regret it but I don't have one now. Being insecure about it is even more counterproductive.
I guess my questions are, is Wicca as free form as I practice it, or should I try and find another categorisation for how I worship? And despite labels, can I feel more fulfilled while still having to hide it?

Hiding in plain sight is pretty standard as quite a few Wiccans are broom closeted. Scroll down to the altar photo section and you'll find Baby Bear's well done photo essay on altars that don't look like altars.
The sense of fulfillment is a good indication of your efforts being OK. In the long run we all do our own thing. Simplicity is always acceptable as it comes from the heart.
The main precautions I can recommend are 1. Make no pledges you can't fully honor. When we give our word our higher-self expects us to follow through. 2. Never summon anything for fun or that you can’t banish. 3. Close what you opened, whether it’s a circle, chakras, ouija board, spirit contact, pasture gate, etc before walking away.

Ooo, somehow I missed that. Gonna' check it out.Scroll down to the altar photo section and you'll find Baby Bear's well done photo essay on altars that don't look like altars.
All very good advice.1. Make no pledges to Deities you can't fully honor. When we give our word, our Spirit expects us to follow through.
2. Never summon anything for fun. Summoning anything you can't control is just begging for problems.
3. Always add the caveat to your spells that it be for the good of all concerned, and harm none.
4. always close what you opened, whether circle, chakras, ouija boards, spirit contact, gateways, portals, crossroads...before walking away.
One difference I was taught is that one doesn't "close" a crossroads, per se, but one walks away from it when done doing business there, never looking back. Energetically-speaking, it perpetually remains "open," etc.
Thanks.

Thank you so much for telling me about that altar post, there were so many good ideas on there. It got me excited to have one again. And going out, why didn't I think of that? I love doing things at night, it's so calming, but going out just to be in nature sounds like a great way to feel more fulfilled.Hiding in plain sight is pretty standard as quite a few Wiccans are broom closet Priest/esses. Kassandra, absolutely right about the crossroad. My error.
