Graveyard soil
Graveyard soil
I have been meaning to get my hands on some graveyard soil. There is a old graveyard very close to me but I get some cautionary vibes about bringing home dirt from a legitimate graveyard. I could buy it online guilt free but...it is in essence still dirt and it's very free. Plus if I get it, I know it's authentic. I have some wards and spells that this ingredient might come in handy but I want to make sure I am not bringing back anything dark with it. Any suggestions? No judgement please, I am not a weirdo trying to disturb the dead or desecrate someone's resting place.
Re: Graveyard soil
Do you have any family buried near by? My Grandmum and great-grandmother would help me out in a pinch. It's family lineage power so it works for me.

Hi!
We have had a few discussions on this. No judgment.
I have gathered dirt from the cemetery where my dad is. Usually present on the Samhain Altar, I have used it for ancestor worship too.
When I gather, I state to the Ether that I merely gather this dirt as representation of those who have gone before, any and all malevolent forces will stay away from this sample. So mote it be.
Phrase in the positive, any form of the word NO may invite strangeness to your sample. For instance, a phrase to avoid would be something like "I wish not to let any evil forces attach themselves to this sample" ...the universe erases the word "not" and it now sounds like "I wish to let any evil forces to attach themselves to this sample". This applies to all conjunction of the word no also like can't, wouldn't, couldn't, shouldn't, don't. ..you get the idea.

Re: Graveyard soil
Question... what would be the benefit of buying it? How would it avoid any issues that graveyard dirt might carry? The dirt would come from a legitimate graveyard either way (unless they're scamming you). If you get it yourself you can at least make sure some rituals to honor the graveyard and the resting dead are done. Usually when one collects graveyard dirt they spend some time at the grave where they will collect, making offerings to the spirit, and requesting some dirt for aid. Usually with the promise of more offerings in payment. There are many ways to collect the dirt, and none is really better than another, just different traditions. See which makes sense to you and fits your beliefs. There is a old graveyard very close to me but I get some cautionary vibes about bringing home dirt from a legitimate graveyard. Graveyards here have fences so how would one access a graveyard without violating some property laws?

I don't have any qualms about acquiring such things, what's the harm in taking a small amount? I'm sure others would disagree and get all uppity, but you aren't doing anything wrong. If buying some online helps ease your guilt then perhaps that's the way to go. But like previously mentioned, who's to know it's real graveyard dirt?
Re: Graveyard soil
This is amazing advice. I never knew anyone who has had to acquire such an ingredient and this helps ease my worries as well as lends some sound advice to follow. Sadly I am far away from anyone that I know personally that is buried. I am currently in Germany (temporarily) and some of the graveyards here date back pretty far, some of them get pretty creepy looking too but they are almost always open.
Re: Graveyard soil
I would absolutely follow Siona's suggestion and go to a place you feel drawn. Introduce yourself. Make a small offering. Have a conversation with the person and explain why you need the soil. If you get a yes I'd make a larger offering and proceed. Thank them. If you get a "no vibe" thank them and then move to another. I'm not saying the soul is there, but places have energy. These palaces are sacred places of great meaning for long periods of time.

Re: Graveyard soil
You could ake a sample from the cemetery’s Dirt Pile which is sand and soil that is removed from all the graves and not put back because the burial fills the grave up and there is no room for it. the pile is usually in back of the cemetery. It is sort of anonymous dirt because it is not from a specific person's grave. And don't forget to leave a silver offering if you visit a specific grave to seek a spirit's assistance and cooperation; or just use the plant mullein as a substitute since it's nickname is graveyard dirt.
