Language barrier

Postby Minuette » Mon May 25, 2015 9:22 am

Hello everyone! I am still quite new to wicca and I have a question that I didn't manage to find an answer to. Personally, I don't live in an English speaking country. Although I can speak and understand English quite well, for some reason, it doesn't seem like it fits in my spells and I feel quite a bit awkward using it in them. So, my question is: can you translate spells into your own language? Does it make them weaker that way?

Magick works in the subconscious realms of existence, and really the only way to communicate with the subconscious realms is through symbols.

This is one reason the Runes are so popular in magick, because they aren't 'just letters', they're symbolic expressions of Consciousness.

An interesting line of research is 'The Green Language' or 'The Language of the Birds'.

Thank you very much for your answers! It helped me a lot. This question had been bugging me for quite a while, but now I finally know the answer.

Oh, about the introduction... I will do that right away. I'm quite shy when it comes to joining new sites, so it usually takes me a while to introduce myself. ^^

I agree spells won't be any weaker if you translate them. A person is connected to their ancestry and speaking your native language when casting a spell makes more sense than speaking in any other language, even if you understand it well.
I suggest you try and make your own spells, they tend to work better than other spells and you will be able to have them in your language. It can sometimes be quite hard to translate in rhymes (I would know :) ).
And yes, as Adastra said, feel free to ask questions and we will do our best to answer :)
