Child Scared of Monster

Postby Yex » Mon May 18, 2015 6:01 pm

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I was hoping for some input.

I have a 2-year-old daughter. Lately, when she wakes up in the morning, she points to a particular part of her bed and says that there's a "stinky monster" (her generic term for something frightening), and appears frightened of that spot. Her vocabulary is limited, so I can't really get any more information about what she's scared of. Now I know, children have vivid imaginations, and this all probably seems very mundane, but I'd like to attempt to take it seriously and address it as such.

I was hoping for suggestions on what to do for the situation. I already do a brief blessing of her room most nights before I put her down to sleep (and have done this long before this situation arose). I was thinking of maybe putting a dreamcatcher in the room, and maybe some garlic for general banishing. If you have any other ideas, I'm open to hear them. Also, any suggestions on how to bless the dreamcatcher with the correct intention would be welcome as well.

Peace and Love,
Yex

A dream catcher is a great idea....and let her know the Scary things can not get past the web.
knowing her limited ability to dialog, have you atempted to get her to describe the "monster"?
Also, I don't know where you are in the potty traing phase of things, but this can be a source of distress for little ones, and she may be mirroring that in some aspect.
maybe others have more suggestions...

Thanks for the input; I think I might go pick up a dreamcatcher to-day. I've asked her about the monster, but haven't gotten much response beyond the phrase "stinky monster". I've heard her use the phrase in different contexts as well, including to describe an area that is very dark, but in this context it is always in the daytime, upon waking up, and directed at a particular area of her bed/room.

I didn't consider that it could be potty training related; she is starting that, although she is usually pretty articulate about her needs in that area.

Since it's a particular spot every time, I am inclined to think that she's being visited by something. Whether it's truly something bad, is hard to tell. Some children are frightened of unfamiliar things regardless of whether they're good or bad. The dream catcher and a cleansing are probably the best ideas.

Both of my kids see things not of this world, so I completely understand where your coming from. I have one 7 year daughter and a 2 year old son. My daughter has seen things since she was 1 and her abilities have become better with age. I have made her a dream catcher and had her help. I also have a few different crystals and gems in her room and she has her nature box where she keeps her treasures from mother nature ( her words)...she said they will protect her too. We also bought her a pouch from a shamanic Indian and we put her crystals in there so she can wear them out, for protection.

As for our 2 year old, he won't sleep in his room. Since we've moved into this home, he has seen my Daddy in his room and what he calls "bad guy". Bad guy is always in his room, our kitchen or in our master bathroom. But mainly in his room. I've actually seen this entity twice. Once looking over his crib and once, just standing there in the middle of the night. But I never can make out much than parts of the "body". He goes from scared to tolerance with this "Bad Guy."

Once I was in the shower and I heard my son having a full on conversation with a man. I jumped out if the shower, butt naked and ran into the room, thinking it may be my husband home super early from work ...or an intruder. There was no one there. But i heard a man!! So my daughter has not been able to see him until last week. She drew a picture of what she saw....he's wearing a linen shirt and straw type hat, with dirty khaki colored pants (which I've actually seen the legs with the same description of the pants). He also has a button up jacket he wears. From her drawing he looks like he is from the mid 1800's. Which makes since if you've read my post of my son being a reincarnated civil war soldier.

As of now, my son isn't super scared of him during the day, but won't sleep in there at night. I've smudged before..which usually helps tremendously. ..but this man is stubborn. I don't know if having my husband smudge would help or just let him be here until my son can communicate with me better about what "bad guys wants.

Definitely try the dream catcher and my daughter nature box is her own little alter. Maybe make one with your daughter and let her express out loud what kind of energy she wants in her room...only loving kind, positive energy. Nothing negative, nothing here with intentions of scaring or harm. And I would continue to smudge. I have to regularly and I usually include my children.

I think this is a cool concept that just poped into my head for this situration being your not sure about if its imaginary or like im thinking an actual entity.

First I would do some spiritual cleansing of her room and general protection,
be it a sachet you hang in her room for protection such as this:
Image

or whatever you do normaly
(Quick note that Obsidian and other dark crystals/stones should never be near the bed they promote nightmares)

Second, and this is for your child,
I would make some 'holy water' as some call it, and place it into a spray bottle and make "Monster-Be-Gone" water for your child to spray on the 'monster'.
You could even print off labels online for it with a simple search or you can let her decorate it.

Now on the Holy Water
There are three kinda main holy waters:

Lunar water/Moon Water: You take purified water be it rain, spring or just bottled purified water that you place under the moonlight for the full night for a full moon cycle or under the full moon. Some add a pinch of salt others dont, and some bless the water with a prayer as you set it out under the moon light where others don't. Note the belief is that you do not let Moon Water out in the sunlight directly.
Here is an example

Solar Water: The same exact thing only for the sun and to be done at sunrise and taken up before moon light. Also like the moon water you do not let solar water out in the moonlight directly.

Basic Holy Water: Now this is your basic holy water; salt and water that is blessed.

This is a very simple step-by-step of them all.

I hope it helps :3

Thanks, everyone, for the advice; some great ideas have been thrown out.

Here's what we've done so far: I taught my daughter a mini-banishing ritual (basically just making a cross or an X sign with her hands and saying "go away stinky monster"); we've hung a dreamcatcher in the room (one that she picked out, and which I explained to her would keep monsters away); garlic placed in the area of the room she's afraid of; lots of general blessing of the room, prayer, et cetera. Also, I've assured her that her stuffed animal (the one she always sleeps with) is brave, just like her, and will keep her safe - I know from personal experience that a favorite stuffed animal can often be deeply linked to a child's animal totems/Holy Guardian Angel/protective spirits/etc.

Baby Bear, it's interesting that you recommended the holy water spray; I posted this question on another forum and got essentially the same suggestion from someone else. I'm holding off on that for now - she is two, after all, and I worry that it could just become a toy and be misused. If the problem persists, though, I will probably try it, but I'm hoping that for now we might be set.

Update: Upon waking up this morning, she didn't complain of anything scary. Later, upon waking up from her afternoon nap, she was in good spirits, and then pointed to the dreamcatcher, said, "No stinky monster anymore! It's gone!", and then went over to that area of the room, said, "it's not a monster, it's cute", and pointed out things in the area that she likes.

Seems to be resolved! :) Thanks everyone!

Good to hear Yex :D , seems like once we assign a task to something...it works!
I really liked the monster spray that BBbear posted, what a great idea! Similar concept ....wish these things were around when I was little, my monster lived under the bed  it was going to grab my ankle and pull me under.

Hey, quick followup question: now that the issue appears to be resolved, should I dispose of the garlic (and if so, how), or should I leave it in there?

I am with FF the best thing would be planting it maybe outside her room and have her help you do it, maybe just simply having her help you dig the hole or mess with the sand

also thanks ff lol I was planing on making this when my niece was older so i already had it in my head glad you liked the ideal
