Magick, Spirituality and Psychology

Postby Loika » Thu Apr 09, 2015 11:45 pm

Do you think that there is a link between magick, spirituality and psychology?

By this I mean, for example: I use light and bubbles as protection. I put them round myself, my house (usually when I go out of course) and my pets, amongst other people/things. By doing this, I feel better. It reassures me, I feel protected and safer and therefore less anxious (I have ADHD, anxiety is something I deal with on a daily basis!) So I feel this works on both a spiritual, magickal and a psychological level for me.

Do you believe that when you protect yourself or your home that it's your angels/guides alone that are protecting you? Is it partly psychological, or maybe even totally psychological? If we believe in fate, do we even need to protect ourselves? If something is meant to happen, wont it happen regardless of if we are protected?

I love to hear your thoughts about this!

Yes, I do think it's all connected.

I always feel the need to visualise a protection bubble around me since I'm really young. It really helps me because It's quite hard for me to leave the house, it makes me really anxious. And I think our magic abilities are linked to our psychological moods, for example the more stressed, anxious or depressed I am the more difficult it would be to visualise and maintain my protection.

Same thing for spirituality, I think our way of seeing things change considering what's happening in our lives.

All things are linked, and spirituality and psychology certainly are. Remember that psychology means "study of the Psyche". Psyche comes from the Greek word and can be translated as "soul" "breath" and "spirit". Its often forgotten that its only been since Psychology became a more popular science (relatively recent) that people started to instead translate Psyche as "mind" so in truth psychology is the study of spirituality, though many modern versions have strayed far from this meaning.

Regarding magick, I think this is simply more evidence that thoughts and emotions that certainly we're utilizing during any magickal practice are energy and that intent can support obtaining or manifesting what the mind desires. So when a person takes a concoction or even just a herb and expects it to have a certain effect, the energy of their expectation, under certain circumstances, can manifest the result or strengthen the effect of the concoction or herb, similarly to how energy work supports physical healing.

Doesn't always work that way; I've had things work that I didn't expect to, and vice versa, but under certain circumstances I do believe that the energy of intent/expectations does increase the effectiveness of what one is doing. You're simply putting your own energy into it.

Similarly, when my family (and some friends) tell me they're praying for me, I thank them -- and I mean it. I don't necessarily believe that their (Christian) God is helping me; I do, however, believe that the energy of their prayers (intent!) helps me a lot.

Which ties right in with the topic of this thread: When I place protections around my self and my space, my spirit community supports that, of course, but the energy of my intent is what puts the protections in place.

In short (too late! hee), I believe that the link between psychology, magick and spirituality is energy.
