White Table vs Black Table?

Postby RosieMoonflower » Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:02 am

Can someone help me understand these terms and what they mean? I had a conversation with one of my students about paganism. Her parents are pagans and are raising her as one too, although she is more drawn to Buddhist practices. Anyways, it's a big "no no" for a teacher and student to talk about these things. If a teacher wants to talk to a kid who doesn't go to church about Christ, it's all good. But, if a pagan teacher finds a pagan student and they would like to have a conversation regarding such, it must be done in secret. *sigh* This is because I live in the Bible Belt of America. Because we were having this secret sensitive conversation at school, I didn't ask too many follow up questions, even when I didn't know something. The student told me her mother "works" with Saints and daemons and that she "works" at both the white table and the black or dark table. (I can't remember if she used the word dark or black).

I'm just wondering, when someone says they "work" with a saint, daemon, or deity, what does that mean,"work"? I always assumed it meant they help you perform your magic, but the way she mentioned it I wasn't sure.

I also have no idea what the two tables are or how to understand them. If anyone can help explain, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

Thanks!

The only thing that comes to mind for me would be the colour of the altar cloths she may use for different rituals. Every colour has a different meaning and is used in a different way in magical workings. For instance Black can be fore unhexing, scrying, grounding, defense, wisdom, banishing and releasing. White is sort of an all purpose, for cleansing, purity, healing, peace and balance.

That's my definition of work too. As humans, we're in need of fixing up like any other creations. The process of magick is our therapy. Why do we need to fix ourselves? Are we broken? Yes some of us are indeed broken but we don't have to be broken to need fixing up.

Working with the Spirits (Angels, Saints, Daemons and Deities) for me is calling their aid or help to repair something. This is actually invocation. To work together it means for me that we must become one with our spirit community -- one through and through.

The incantations in my spell takes care of my heart, to make room for the spirits that I call to dwell there. Many other spells, charms and potions take care of my actions. Visualization in my spell takes care of the brain. How does a human brain become one with the Spirit? Not by Them doing our homework for us, but rather, by helping us to figure things out. That's working together!

As for the tables. I think it has something to do with the spirits. Daemons and other Chthonic Beings are labeled as dark creatures while Saints and Angels are the light ones.
