Candle spell gone wrong?

Postby summer12 » Tue Jan 27, 2015 11:29 pm

Hello all, It's been awhile since I last posted anything on here but something happened that I just cant explain or figure out and I need some advice. Not sure if this is the right place to put this either but I didn't see anything related to candles ... I am still very much a novice when it comes to the craft, I have been practicing for a few years as a solitary and I still have much to learn but I have the basics when it comes to casting a circle and basic spell work. The other night I had purchased a small spell kit from a local shop. I've bought these before, used them before and always do them in the same way and never had a problem until this time. The kit was for removing creative blocks and it comes with a small candle and a mix of herbs that you are supposed to sprinkle around the candle and let it burn after you put your intent into it.

I casted my circle, put my intent into the candle and set it all up after and lit it to let it burn down. I was feeling very drained after and ended up passing out in bed. The next morning I woke up to this:

and I am very confused on what to make of it. Nothing like this has ever happened before and I've never seen anything like this regardless. Every time I have done any candle work that requires a candle to burn down I always put it in the same container...which all it is is a lid from a three wick candle and I always place it on the little cork mat in case any wax drips out and any time ive done one of these little kits all that happens is that the candle melts down over the herbs and thats it, nothing ever as drastic as what is pictured above and nothing that has ever left a mark on the platform underneath.

Does anyone have any idea as to what happened? What could have caused this? Is this something that I should be worried about or is it just that maybe I put a little too much energy into the spell?

I suspect that the candle was simply burning hotter than usual since the herbs provide extra fuel ... It looks like it's in some sort of tin container, which can leave a big ol' mark like that when heated up.

I know this because (funny unsolicited anecdote here) when I was in college I was part of a senior secret society, and for initiation for new members one year we thought it would be really cool to arrange tealights in the shape of the symbol of our society. It was very beautiful and atmospheric for our initiation ... until we discovered when we were cleaning up we had burnt little black circles into the beautiful wood finish of the big mahogany table, which was part of the college office that we were using as a meeting space. (in the shape of our SECRET symbol, no less!) We got in BIG, BIG trouble for that, especially because we weren't even allowed to use candles in the first place, since it didn't have fire extinguishers, emergency sprinklers, or even very good fire exits ... (that was very smart of us). I think the year before we managed to set somebody's sleeve on fire, too, and burned a big hole in the couch. We were not very good at initiations and stuff ... I think we had to switch to electric tealights after that.

So good thing you set down that cork mat!!! That was really smart thinking ...
