feeling like a fake

Postby Ravenstar » Sat Dec 27, 2014 7:24 pm

I feel like a fake at Wicca. I mean I don't want to put the work in. My intentions are good but yahoo know. How long does it take to learn and memorize? To know what you are doing? I just took a cumulative test covering the first 12 chapters in Living a Wicca Life at Witchschool online. I got all of them right which is amazing because I guessed at them. How can I just buckle down and take it more seriously? Bleimgd. :flyingwitch:

Hi Ravenstar, it can be a little overwhelming for awhile, but i think your best bet is to get outdoors and put what you have learned into practice.
Did you ever contact my friend in your area? He would be good at helping you put your knowledge into practicle use.

I feel like a fake at Wicca. I mean I don't want to put the work in.
The thing about witchcraft is that you really only get out of it what you put into it. If you don't want to put the work in, you're not going to see huge results, you know? And there are some who are alright with that, but if you want more you have to do the work.

Of course the work doesn't have to include things like memorization in a lot of cases. If you don't want to memorize herb uses, magical associations, and so on, then don't, keep a book of shadows and just refer to it when necessary. No issues with that, it's why people keep them.

As for how long it takes, a lot of people go by a year and a day of study just to become familiar with the basics. Some people take longer. It's like any skill, you have to put in the practice and the time, and you're always going to be learning more and building on what you know. I know it's a cliche saying, but it's really about the journey and not the destination... because there isn't really a destination you just reach, and that's it. The work really is what makes witchcraft what it is.

Check your messages, I sent it on the 9th.

I would like to add, for some this path may feel a little strange until the knowledge of it sets in. Do you otherwise feel like you have found home?

Thanks. I will check it. Well, Catholicism was my home until now. Now I guess I don't think about it. With Wicca though I feel more free... like chains have been lifted off of me. Is that kind of like it? Yeah, it does just feel different. Like different way of seeing what I have been taught. So, I guess that will take awhile to get use to. I guess I feel like I should jump in and have more gusto for study, meditation and spiritual work. Blessings. :flyingwitch:

It does take some effort, like Siona said, you get out if it ...what you put into it.
A friend and I dedicated the same day, I got through the degrees in 4 years, she just finished hers a couple years back...17 years for her, so it really depends on what is going on in your life, how much time you can dedicate, and if this is really what resonates with you.
The process is so ongoing, I find I reach plateaus, then some enlightenment comes from out of the bushes and I ascend, sometimes you linger long on the plateau, sometimes you get it right away.
However hard work generally pays off, if you just want to dabble don't expect huge results.
There is no right or wrong way though.
I have recently found additional avenues that have brought me closer to my path and I work once again to get to the next plateau.
best wishes in your journey,
