Broken moonstone, what to do?

Postby Cruel Rotus XI » Thu Nov 20, 2014 1:43 pm

One of my rainbow moonstones just broke into three pieces. Immediately I thought to toss the broken pieces into my mortar and grind the luminescent crystal into a fine powder for later use. Then it occurred to me that perhaps I should bury the shattered crystal at the roots of the apple tree in my garden. This apple tree I mention is one which I have been interacting with in order to receive a branch to craft a wand.

The marquise-cut rainbow moonstone which broke had chipped before, several months ago. I glued it back together using super-glue. It broke today during a prayer. I was greeting the rising sun in my bedroom when I felt tempted to place the moonstone cabochon 'pon the centre of my brow. I've done this many times before without it breaking; but, this time, when I dropped my hand from my forehead after setting the moonstone, the moonstone also dropped. It shattered into three chunks; and, as I saw it fall from my head, I realized too that I knew it would fall and break and I've been waiting for it to break again. I say this because I felt a sense of reprieve when it broke, like it broke to warn me of danger or to protect me.

I don't know.

What I'm really torn between is what to do with the pieces.
Bury the fragments 'neath the apple tree, or grind them to powder and harness in spellcraft?
If I can answer this question I'll know all other answers and I'm certain anything anyone will say shall only lead me to the truth, so I thank you in advance for your wisdom.

Have you asked the moonstone what it wants?

Why not still use it? It may be in small pieces, but they'd be easier to tuck into pockets or charm bags. Why not tuck a piece into the hem of a favorite garment? Reusing the pieces by grinding them into dust does sound like a good idea. A cute little bottle of rainbow moonstone dust would be adorable. But you know, if you feel that the stone has served its purpose, returning it to the earth is a good idea.
I second SnowCat's idea: ask the stone before acting.

Thank you both for responding!

As suggested, I decided to ask the fragments what they want instead of forcing my will upon them. I REALLY wanted to grind them to dust for later use; but, upon communicating with the crystals using my rainbow moonstone pendulum, I decided to keep them as they are. The whole situation came to remind me that when something is broken or damaged, it is not destroyed... it actually becomes more beautiful in it's own unique way.

The moonstone, now three crystals, rests elegantly upon a polished emerald slab I keep on display in my bathroom. I find it is quite pleased to be where it is. :)

It makes a beautiful display. Are you open to the fragments deciding on another use in the future? It's kind of interesting, now that I think about it, that it chose to break into three pieces. I believe that such things are sentient, in their own way, so was it sending a message?
