Activating Crystals?

Ok, I just watched a video to do with "activating" crystals with a a quartz wand and creating a crystal grid. Ok, I don't necessarily understand this. I understand that gemstones and crystals can be used as vessels to store energy (usually associated with a specific emotion or magickal purpose.) What I don't understand is the purpose of activating them with a wand and what the purpose of creating a grid is. Couldn't I simply use my own energy to activate the crystals (and charge them, though I think its better to let that occur from the moon or storms and stuff).

You don't need to do/have either it was that persons personal ritual/method of how they prefer to do it. Magick is very individual so no worries.

Crystals can be programmed for many purposes. You may want protection, prosperity, peace or love. You may be looking for healing. You may be improving your home or work environment or seeking angelic contact. It is important that programming is well thought out and properly focused. Imprecise wording confuses crystal energies but meticulous wording directs energy precisely.

When you have precisely formulated your intention, hold the crystal in your hands. Sit quietly with it, letting yourself attune to its energy. Let yourself be open to any higher guidance that may be with you. When you feel totally in harmony with the stone, state your intention firmly and clearly. You may repeat this several times to anchor the intention into the crystal. When you intuitively feel that the programming is complete, put the crystal down. Detach your energies from the crystal by taking your attention away from it.

When the crystal has been programmed, you may like to make a special time each day when you sit with it, asking that the energies be transferred to you. Depending on its purpose, you can wear the crystal, place it in your pocket or put it under your pillow or by your bed at night.
