Unknown Feather
Sorry to disagree with everyone, but I think that it may be a hawk feather..A barred owl feather is also a possibility....check out these feathers and compare, see which one matches the best.

I think it matches the Barred Owl Feather the best.
It is a dark rich coloration of stripes, Thick stripes, a solid black tip.
The only problem with the Red-shouldered Hawk is that they are lighter and have more stripes (thinner).
I'd say it would be solved if you can take a picture Twine, and don't put it against a white background, maybe take a picture in some grass?

It looks similar to both.
But it's almost identical to this feather of the barred owl.
The hawk feather seems too small, or at least for the shape of this feather.
Not to say it's one or the other, it could be something completely different.

I can most certainly do this.

This hawk is another possibility.

My issue with it being a barred owl feather might have to do with shape, but that depends on where exactly the feather was located on the wing.

It is very hard to tell. I will ask my grandfather, he may know. He knows quite a bit about birds, so perhaps he will have the answer.

Isn't it, though!?its so pretty
It was quite the prize. ^^

Barred or Spotted Owl
People with totem can appear threatening on the outside,
but are actually very benign.
This Owl can teach us how to use your voice to great effect.
The Barred Owl is a very vocal creature that will duet with its mate, correspondingly the Barred Owl is spirit guide to Shamans who are gifted in speech, and cooperative with others.

This guy might be good to learn about.
The Wolf's moon tripod link I posted initially has a LOT of information on owls period, with little tid bits on how the traits differ depending on the type of owl.
