Bones

Did anyone see tonight's episode of Bones? It is a very interesting episode about Witches and the Craft. I'd love to discuss it if anyone is up for it.

It was actually very interesting. It was centered around a dark witch and and there was also a coven which ended up killing the dark witch but they were also tripping on some base form of LSD hahaha it was a pretty cool episode.

Well yes and no. There were a lot of misconceptions and I started to get irritated, but Bones chimed in and of course she went straight for the facts. It was rather well rounded. It was very interesting. Well worth seeing. It's not up on IMDB yet but I'm sure it will be in the next few days.

I've never really watched Bones (which is weird, considering I love anything having to do with forensics/CSI). I only watched a couple of minutes of one episode.

I absolutely love CSI and that does look like an interesting episode. I'm shocked I haven't seen it. But Bones is quite a bit different than CSI. I mostly love it because of the characters and because I have a minor obsession with the main chick's sister (Zoey Deschenel)

The few minutes I watched of that one episode was pretty funny, but I just haven't gotten around to watching others.

I don't frankly blame you. It is an acquired taste as far as tv shows go. But its also like Rescue Me (which I am more than addicted to) It may take an episode or two but once you finally get into it, you will be absolutely hooked on it!

I used to watch Rescue Me, then I just stopped watching it, I don't know why. There are very few shows that I watch religiously anymore. I like to watch CourtTV (or, TruTV, whatever it is now), mainly Forensic Files. I only watch two shows every week, though, and that's Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.

I also loved to watch Nip/Tuck, that was one of my favorites. Pity it ended.

I didn't like the episode of "Bones" very much. I feel as though they portrayed Wiccans as airheads and it was somewhat offensive.

I wonder if they portrayed Wiccans that way because they're ignorant? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm asking a legit question.

They were dropping LSD and killed someone for being a "dark" witch. Sounds like idiots to me. Plus it could have also just been written by someone who knows witchcraft but isn't fond of Wicca, because a lot of traditional witched and such do for the most part think of Wiccans as fluffy airheads. Just saying...

Well in the episode, they explained in the end that it wasn't their fault that they started tripping. But I do agree that they made the coven look like airheads. Also they were all women (no offense, I just believe it works best with both men and women) But at least it was better than some of the other crap they put on tv about Wiccans.

I personally think it really doesn't matter what genders are involved with a coven (read: I don't think it matters if the coven's all female, all male, or both), as long as everyone's capable of performing the rites and rituals, but my opinion really doesn't matter in the long run, considering I'm not in a coven.

I've seen some crazy stuff - and not in a good way - about Wiccans on TV, and honestly, it annoys me more than anything.

I agree it is annoying, and thinking back on the episode, there was a lot of crap in there that pissed me off. But the thing that got me and made me feel better about it was Bones continually stating the facts (as usual) and at least getting MOST of the stuff right (even though it fell on deaf ears)

Yea, I agree it shouldn't matter. I am solitary myself but I would like to be in a coven. Most of the stuff I have read has said that it doesn't matter but that it is preferable to have about an even number of male and female witches in a coven. That is also usually not possible as scattered as we are, but I see no reason why it matters. It just seemed odd to me. Probably because the episode made it seem like men couldn't be witches. There wasn't one mention of men in Wicca. It did further the assumption that "witch" refers to a female. Which is also an irritant.

Well if you go by what witch is defined as and what Wicca centers itself around, then in some instances it can be said "no, they can't be witches." Witch is defined as a female who practices magick. Wicca is also a very female oriented religion. In everything I ever read or talked about with a Wiccan, it's focused heavily on the Goddess. The God is only really mentioned when it comes to giving the Goddess some type of service. In some ways, it's very emasculating. Then again Wicca is about peace, love and all other things considered feminine, and Gods do things that are considered masculine, that's found through every religion ever. Only women ever take on masculine traits, it's never the opposite....

But anyways I rambling a bit, back to the point, a male who practices magic is a warlock. And don't go pulling your whole, that word means oath breaker; that's rubbish. The closest thing anyone can find(other than it meaninf a secure hold in times of war) that is remotely related to the word warlock in any language comes from Norse, vard lokkur, the two words apart mean wolf being, together it's translated as spirit caller. Vard lokkurs tended to call on spirits, especially the wolf, in times of war, one of those masculine times, to give them courage, aid them in battle and guide them so that they could either emerge victorious or head home to Valhalla.

Guys, do me a favour and reclaim warlock in the manner we women have witch^_^
