I noticed this other post on black mirror scrying https://www.usgs.gov/ and wondered if you'd seen it.

Re: Can I make my own Scrying mirror at home?
Hello,
I made my own black mirror. I bought a cheap picture frame and a can of flat black high quality spray paint. At home, I removed the picture and left the glass in. Since it's the backside of the glass for the spray paint, I cleaned the backside of the glass with 99.9% rubbing alcohol to be sure there were no smudges. I left the glass in the frame and spray painted the entire back with several layers of paint. When it dried, I cut up some cardboard to fit inside the frame then bent the metal holders back in position to hold the cardboard in place. Finished and ready for use unless you want to consecrate it.![fairy :fairy:](images/smilies/Fairy.gif)

One tip I would add that I don't believe I saw mentioned, is...put a piece of black felt between your painted surface and the backing for the frame. I found the metal parts associated with the frame stand can scratch the paint off, then you have a speck to stare at.

Re: Can I make my own Scrying mirror at home?
You can absolutely make your own scrying mirror and it need not be elaborate or expensive. In fact there is a long tradition of scrying looking at one's own thumbnail. I have found that the specific surface is far less important than the mindset.
Re: Can I make my own Scrying mirror at home?
Hadn't heard of the thumbnail method, I like it! maybe paint that nail black?... but any surface that shifts the mind I suppose would work. Which I can't remember if I mentioned before...but these days everyone who has a flat black surface of a cell phone, has a black mirror in their hands.
I personally use the lawn or a dirt surface, the shift is interesting because you can feel it in your eyes as the 3d surface of the grass suddenly becomes 2d and takes on a kind of geometric pattern.

I think it helps to lick the thumb nail so it’s reflective. ![😎](../../twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f60e.svg)

I’ve also had some success using the empty space between my hands as I hold them in a position similar to a Triangle of Manifestation.

I just finished spray painting my own scrying mirror yesterday. It's covered up right now until it finishes curing, and I can use it.

Re: Can I make my own Scrying mirror at home?
I made my own, too, out of a cheap picture frame and acrylic paint. I didn't use spray paint, though. I used a brush to paint it. works well, too. But I guess you need a lot less paint with a spray can.

Re: Can I make my own Scrying mirror at home?
No, as long as you paint the backside of the glass and have a thick layer of paint in the end there shouldn't be any brushstrokes. That said I didn't use cheap paint since I am an artist and have some good paints here, that could make a difference.
