Anyone know a good place to purchase an altar?

Do you mean buying a table or flat surface to use as an altar, or buying the items that go on the altar itself, or both?

Both I guess

An alter can be just about any flat surface. I have a bed-side table that's not huge but big enough. The kinds of things you place on it are up to you, things that represent you and the things you believe. I have an Angel on mine, also moon and sun vials, a dragon incence burner, candles, crystals, and things I use in rituals. Above my alter I have a painting of a woman standing on a balcony with her arms out stretched and all kinds of animals/fantasy creatures around her and in the clouds.

Blessed Be,
Wolf Heart

Well, you saw the other post on the subject of altars - it pretty much depends on who you ask and what you're looking for! Candle shops are normally a great place to start, as are new age stores.

If you're part of a particular Wiccan or Druidic tradition you may need very particular items placed in a very particular order and facing a particular direction. If you're still learning or a more generic Neopagan then the joker's wild :D You can pretty use whatever takes your fancy. I described my own altar in the other thread, and I've seen everything from two candles and a bowl of herbs on a mantlepiece to large tables with elaborate chalices, swords and crystal tipped oak carved wands as long as my arm.

This is a very old post, but the question - where to buy an altar - clarified as referring to the table, tools & supplies - is one of the FAQs. Where does this often repeated idea that witches must buy everything at special shops come from?

Repurpose! Your kitchen probably has a wine cup, heat-safe bowl & knife. Use bay leaf, rosemary or cinnamon as incense. There's no rule that we have to copy the Ceremonialist's grand style. Grocery stores have herbs, teas, utility & birthday candles & scented oils. Cauldrons are camping or cooking gear. Online search Witchcraft supplies & pay shipping so adjust your expectations.
