One of my daughter's has headlice and i think they've annoyed me more than they've annoyed her! I've tried so many different conditioners and special shampoos but nothing works. If anyone has something to get rid of them (doesn't have to be a spell) that would be great.

Ah, head lice! I had long blond hair down to my knees as a kid. It drove my parents went mad when I got them.

Getting rid of them is a real pain. The lice killing shampoos work to a degree but the rest you have to do manually. Apply the shampoo as the directions tell you. While you do this, make sure you put all the linens, towels and soft toys from the all the beds/rooms in the house into a hot wash. If you don't do this then the lice and eggs that linger there will simply re-infest your family. Once the shampoo/insecticide is removed, use the special comb to remove any remaining lice. Then go strand by strand to crush and remove the eggs. They can be difficult to spot so do it under a good light. Many shampoos claim to get rid of eggs but that's near impossible, so resign yourself to spending a few hours removing the eggs. I suggest a few movies for your daughter to watch.

You should also inform your daughter's school, if they haven't already informed parents of an outbreak. If you don't then she'll keep picking it up there. A friend swore that if she applied plenty of hair spray to her daughter's hair she got fewer cases of lice. I suppose this is true as they favor clean hair as it's easier for them to climb. It might be something to try if you're worried about future cases.

I wish you luck!

thats pretty much the step by step procedure. but

"use the special comb to remove any remaining lice"

much of the time the comb is crap and they go right through the teeth, so hope and pray they are big enough to get caught by it or your going to have to do it manually.

Very true. The little buggers are hard to catch. Going through manually with your fingers, strand by strand is about the only thing that really works. Guess the monkeys got it right after all :)

BTW, it's it funny that all three posters to this thread are Aussies?

i agree with hearthwitch but make sure you have plenty of time set aside because is really infuriating when you set an hour aside and get most of them out and then leave to another activity and then the next day when you get the rest out they're all over again

here is my own potion works very well.

an empty well cleaned spray bottle(the kind you get kitchen cleaner in.

200ml vodka (breaks down egg sack)

100 ml olive oil (eggs cannot attach to oily surface)

20 drops tea tree essential oil (head lice hate this)

20 drops lavender essential oil (as above)

20 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil (kills lice and eggs)

add all to the spray bottle and spray liberally over head before bed you can use a shower cap over night but i find this comes off through the night anyway.
wash off in the morning with fairy liquid (mild washing up liquid not dishwasher detergent!) to get the oil out properly. and then use a tea tree conditioner use good metal lice combs and comb thoroughly.
Repeat three days later. and regularly condition and comb through hair.

Disclaimer: this is my own potion and works well on my family but as with all things use with caution, do a skin test if you need to.

I;ve tried many things in the passed and this is the one that works best and also I find the safest as I know what is in it.

also keeps in fridge for a couple of weeks, but take out and shake about 1 hour before using

thanx for that SpinnyHex... i'll definately try it!!! It seems like no matter how much i comb through the hair, i'll miss at least one egg, then it all starts again!! smiley17_snarl ::darkmood::
