just a quick question, how does one send such energy to a person or place they've never seen or possibly heard of before?

A very good question sobek!
In my opinion just reading the words written by someone creates an energy connection. Once an energy connection is established you are open to recieve and send energy.

I agree with Hedgewitch. I was taught that in order to actually 'do' anything with energy you have to have 4 things: link, intent, wanting, then the energy itself. The link can be dna (like hair, blood, dried skin etc), an image (a photo or memory) or a name. If you have the name and approximate location you have the weakest type of link. If you happen to have the 'true' or 'magick' name of the person then it's much stronger.

I'm still learning to recognize energy. But I can send positive thoughts to people, anyway. It just won't be as strong. Getting there, though.
