I know the obvious answer to this question will be wait, give it time and practice. But I want to know if there is any way I can aid it. My question is how do you become more aware of things around you such as deities, the fae, others magic etc. I've noticed that sometimes when my friend feels entities entering the house be it gods or ancestors or sensing magic in others and I just can't, I feel nothing even when trying to be as open and spiritual as I can.

I don't have much experiemce myself, but what I keep reading is 1-don't force it and don't want it too much. The Universe seems to keep you waiting untill the enthisiasm fades a little. And 2- meditation, so that you can train that kind of perception. At the moment, our perception is set for the physical realm...like your neighbour's started car or the cat that is playing with something. By meditation you can diminuish that perception for a while and feed the other one, that senses the "supernatural"
I think there are some crystals that can help too.

To me, being "open" is outside focusing, while being "centered" is pulling my senses inside. I can only sense "other" from within. I have to use my centered-eyesight to see auras, not my physical eyes alone. When I listen to that still, small voice (which may well be shouting through a mental megaphone but I can't hear it), I have to drop down a notch, literally drop into my belly, calm myself, then tune in to hear it. If I skip the drop-down, and just try to listen to the outer noises, I won't get a thing. If something outside pops in to my sense-awareness, I still have to take it down a notch, to get the drift of the outside interference. Otherwise I'm blissfully unaware of what's going on around me. Now that's just my style. But I think BW and I are saying something similar, about outer awareness. You want to get the "other" awareness muscles toned up, not the "outer" ones, and it's the same mind-muscles you'd meditate with.

Edit: just to hopefully clarify what I'm referring to, let me rephrase the very last phrase to read: ...and it's the same consciousness-muscles you'd meditate with.

Hmmm...

My Tradition differs with this one.

In our arrangement of two columns of eight runes,

One of those columns, makes the shape of the muscular, or
skeletal system of the body, when the eight runes are fit together.

The value of that column, by gematria ( number - symbol correspondence )
is 603 (sum of the eight runes).

Now, the value of the word(s), or phrases:

Runic Skeleton = 602

(And, off topic, but note: Skeleton = 319 / Secret = 320)

Awareness = 602

Blood = 604

Holy Guardian Angel = 604

This is why those who knew/know the code, said
they could feel things in their bones, or blood.

So "Awareness", is a body sensation, not a mind function,
as is "Consciousness".It is why I ask my students, how they
"feel", not "think", to put them in touch with their "awareness".

How does it feel to breathe?

How does it feel to stop breathing?

How does the air feel on your skin?

How does something taste?

How does the cat's fur feel?

How does the flower smell?

I Am Body's Sensorium Brought Forth = 603

Sensory Body Set In Motion = 603

So, by getting in touch with your senses, you begin
the process of expanding your field frequency range.

Sitting with a blindfold on, in a dark room, is a beginning
exercise, to enhance sensations not normally tuned into.

Sensory deprivation tanks, were used for this (see John Lilly).

So first getting in touch with sensation via the body, *then*
depriving the body of "normal" sensation can enhance what
is called "extra - sensory" perception.

Another good beginners exercise is to get in touch with your
blood, and not only the heartbeat, but also the movement of blood
through your body.

Also, pay attention to tension and release in the muscular system.

This is a key to things your body senses, yet your mind may not.

Now, as well:

So let us look at some of these links, and meanings.

Crowley, and his student Regardie, talked about the
importance of getting in touch with your "Holy Guardian Angel".

Not a "Christianized" version, but a vibratory energy attached to you.

(Note "Holy Guardian Angel" is the same sum, as the runes forming the
shape of the muscular , and skeletal system)

Regardie taught his students, to "Invoke Often" (equaling 391).

Your "Holy Guardian Angel" is a key to sensing energies you do not.

Not through "normal channels of information".

Now let us consider "perturbations in field states" (look into quantum physics).

Yet, to bring in "Color". It has been found in science, when a male moth beats
its wings at night in a way to signal mating cycle, the female can sense colors
miles away.

Now we may look at "Imaginary Friend", what I did not post earlier, is 391, also
equals two interesting things:

Parents = 391

Secret + Entity = 390

When we are young, and tell our parents about sensing something,
we are often programmed with the "imaginary friend" syndrome.

This short circuits our belief in our own experience.

So, if we hold to that belief, in what we experience, it often becomes
our "secret reality". We do not speak of it, or we speak of it very carefully.

Now, to finish for the moment.

"Shaman" and "Inner Light" are yet two more I did not mention before.

Portal = 390

Paths = 392

There are many "Paths" beyond the "Portal".

And we access those, and see them, in our "Consciousness",
through the "Inner Light" of the mind.

That is part of the Shamanic Way.

Lastly:

603 + 391 = 994

Otherside = 994

Practice, practice, practice.

And you shall learn to sense those who have come through,
and still do, from the Otherside, and there are many all
around us.

Look at the vast bandwidth of vibration then how little we
"normally perceive" (really...look it up!).

Shawn, I'm reminded of a scene from a Star Trek movie in which Spock is dumbfounded when the re-training computer asks him, "How do you feel?" Picture a Vulcan "huh?" Son of gun, you've made me think about this feeling in the bones, and it's in the blood. You've suggested sensory deprivation be used as a means of sensitizing one to the body's awareness, if I'm following your thought threads. Another movie scene pops up, of a blindfolded Luke Skywalker being introduced to the Force, and being zapped by that ball. (I think in pictures.) Hmm. Now, I have to relate to my own experience of when I'm centering: I will draw in my senses until It seems as if I'm just me without a body. I'm feeling like this may be similar to what you seem to be suggesting, because without the distraction of the physical body, the other senses come to the surface, so to speak. And yet I get this through meditating. And I'm also reminded of that old saying "I just feel it in my bones." So, it's the same, but different?

If you want to "speed" up your progress, you should look into doing some sense-concentration exercises (which I think Shawn Blackwood was implying).

"Initiation into Hermetics" by Franz Bardon presents a good system, and I'm sure there's other ones around.

Try meditation on third eye opening and different techniques to do that. With vigilant practice, you'll be able to feel things.

Also work on opening your heart chakra. This is another seat of intuition.
