Initiation?

I was looking for types of Wicca for solitary practices and I came across something that goes like this. "You are not a wiccan until you have been initiated by a higher up wiccan" is this true?

No, don't let other people tell you that you are not a wiccan. Your connection to the God and Goddess is all that matters. Some branches of Wicca say you need to be initiated, but as a solitary, it doesn't matter.
Good luck,

Elly is right. There are some Wiccan organizations who have a hierarchy system that involves more community interaction and initiations, but they don't speak for all Wiccans everywhere.

In fact, probably not even most Wiccans.

I understand that coven members are initiated. Some focus on connecting the red-thread of hereditary line tracing back to the founding Gardnerian or Alexandrian coven. Some couldn’t give a fig. There are degree-systems of advancement. Solitary Wiccans might do a self dedication of their own design if they choose to. As Solitary Witches we’re our own bosses. In occult societies initiation is not a passing on of the Spirit as Christians do but mimics the ordeal of passing over from life

to death

& rising again

to the next incarnation to carry on the “Great Work”. Sometimes an initiation is equated to the hero’s path of conquering the passions of the self. Indigenous folk might pray, fast & quest to meet their spirit guide or go thru tests of fortitude & courage. What they all have in common is awakening the innermost consciousness to manifest.
