Wicca

Good morning everyone! I would like to ask a couple questions about Wicca.

When I was little I was really into magic, thanks to harry potter and my own curiosity. I was so into it that I got a book on Wicca from a bookstore. Looking back I have no idea why I bought it since I didn't like to read back then.

A couple years later the supernatural caught my eye. I became obsessed with all things paranormal but mostly ghosts. I was still young and foolish so I went on the app store to find an app where I can communicate with the departed before I knew that phones or iPods couldn't detect those things.

So here I am in the present day. I was thinking back at those days and decided to google Wicca again. What I read had so many of my feelings and beliefs. I appreciate nature, believe in the supernatural, the third eye. So knowing that Wicca went with what I already believe I've told myself I am going to be wiccan. Here is where the questions fall.

1) I saw that there was a horned god and a goddess. Not much else. If I understand correctly the goddess takes care of all earth? What does the god take care of? Also this was bugging me trying to find the answer, do they have names?

2) I read there are different types of wiccans like eclectic. What types are there?

3) What is the best way to get started? I read about a year and a day but would that do anything if I don't plan to be in a coven? Obviously it would give me knowledge but what other benefits?

Feare56, welcome to the forum. :) Please tell us a bit about yourself in the introductions forum! I look forward to seeing you around here.

I would suggest taking some time to read through this subsection, it will give you a really good run-down of the basics (and some not-so-basics) of Wicca.

Before I start I just want to say that there many interpretations and ideas that may vary depending on the person to answer your questions.

1) The God and Goddess represent both sides of nature. The male and female. One can not live and succeed without the other. The Goddess is immortal, while the God is kind of immortal. The God dies and then is reborn from the Goddess. Neither have set jobs really. But the Goddess represents the moon and birth while the God represents spring, growth, etc.

2) Eclectic Wicca is when the witch/wiccan uses ideas and such from other already made ideas (usually from traditional wicca) and combines them to make their own path. There are many different types of Wicca and these are mostly thought of as Traditional Wicca. These include Feri Wicca, Draconic Wicca, Gardnerian Wicca, Alexandrian Wicca, 1734, Seax Wicca, and a ton more.

3) The best way to get started in my opinion is research. Before you start Wicca do your research. And a lot of it. I'm sure most Wiccans here have done at least an entire year of research. Right now, would not be a good time for you as you need to know some of these basics. Once you've finished that, you'll know how to start.
