Spell before Self-dedication?

Can I/should I cast a spell before self-dedication? I want to wait to self-dedicate. I want to study more and learn more and connect more before I do that. But I also want to cast a guidance/knowledge spell to help me decide on which high school I am going to go to. I have to decide by tomorrow afternoon and I want to ask the God and Goddess for guidance and the wisdom to help me make the decision. Should I just get my self-dedication over with so I can ask? Should I just not ask? Thanks for any responses!

Why don't you do a whole ritual, dedicate...then a guidance spell if you wish, but you may want to try consulting some sort of divination to choose a school. Spells are rarely instantaneous, and if you need immediate guidance a spell may take too long.
Ask the God and Goddess to guide you in your divination then pull some cards or throw some stones, or use the pendulum.
Good Luck!

Well, I see it's a bit late now, but for the future you don't have to do a spell to receive guidance from a deity or deities. Prayer, offerings, meditation, and divination are all some other options to commune with a deity for guidance.

Beyond that, I do think it is a good idea to have done some spell-work (and various sorts of rituals, divination, and other workings) before deciding to dedicate yourself. It's part of making the decision of if this is really the path and practice you want to dedicate yourself too - if you don't have any experience with these things, it's a lot harder to decide if it's really the path you want to be on.
