Have you Ever Been Mistaken as Jewish?

So obviously I know lots of people that are Wiccans and wear pentacles are mistaken for Satanists, but have you guys ever been mistaken as Jewish? I've just started high school, my second day today, and have worn my pentacle necklace, but people have asked me if I was Jewish, and my friend told them I was Wiccan and they were all like, "What is Wiccan?"

So I guess it's good that I can educate them about it, in a way. It's not like I'm going to go around telling people every aspect of my life, but I mean I can let them know it's not evil. Especially since this high school is a Christian high school. Which is slightly awkward.

So I was just wondering if anyone here has had any experiences similar to mine, and what do you say in these situations? Because I tell them I'm not Jewish then they ask what I am and I say Wiccan and they make me explain, but I feel like it's hard to explain in 10 seconds when you're walking into a classroom. Anyway lol, I'd like to hear any experiences you guys have had! Blessed be!

I haven't, but my mom used to get that a lot. She lived in an area with a pretty high Jewish population, so a lot of the non-Jewish people in the area would frequently see her pentacle and mistake it for a star of David.

Oh, ok. It's kinda annoying, but someone finally asked me today if I was a Pagan! Yay finally! She said her friend was one in the year above.

In all my years of being Pagan I have not heard of or even myself been mistaken for being Jewish. A Satanist (which makes me laugh every time) yes but not Jewish. I can see where people would make the mistake though like Siona said about the Star of David. It is similar to our pentacle.

Yes. But that's because I wear the Hexagram or the Star of David. In Kabbalah -- a discipline which I study and practice, the the six points of the hexagram symbolize my Highest Ideals can influence the whole wide world in six directions: north, south, east, west, up and down.

I wear a silver crescent moon necklace that appeared on my 13th birthday (it is a symbol of Artemis) and my mom HATES it. She keeps saying people think I'm Muslim.

It appeared on your 13th birthday. It's a gift and a sign from Artemis. At least in my not so humble feline opinion.

Yeah, I agree. The story is VERY odd. I woke up on my 13th birthday and saw a little present box on my nightstand. So I opened it and saw the necklace and loved it. Went downstairs to say thank you to my mom and she looked at my confused and said she'd never gotten something like that for me and that I knew presents came after I returned from school (since it was a school day.)

I never take if off except for work outs (b/c my hair gets caught in the clasp hrr...).

You know, I used to have a silver crescent necklace too, and my dad said the same thing; he also thought it was Muslim! A quick wikipedia search shows that the crescent and star symbol associated with Muslim countries is really from the Ottoman Empire, and predates even that by quite a bit ... Seems to be Ancient Sumerian in origin. No one ever accused my dad of being historically knowledgeable, though.

*sigh* Yeah. Though it is true, most people associate the crescent moon and star with the Muslim faith. However, I've only been asked once if I was Muslim. Everyone else didn't know what it was an was curious so I think my mom's just paranoid.

I had some crazy drunk guy on a bus call me a Jew once, does that count? It was pretty awful how blatantly offensive he was because I happened to be sitting between two other people, one who was Asian and one who looked Middle Eastern and he referred to them with weird slurs. Awkward.

And for the record, I'm not Jewish.

Well that is slightly awkward... I guess he was drunk so... that's a bit weird though, and quite offensive... people will be people I guess!

Can't ever say I've been mistaken as.. anything, really. The closest I ever came was a woman asking me if I liked the movie The Craft. :)
