A bad omen?

Postby tilarium » Thu Jul 03, 2014 11:30 pm

This is something that happened last year but has been coming to the front of my mind latey. I bought a house for myself and my parents last year. After months of renovations we moved in last November. Before that, on Samhain, I went to the empty house to perform a small ritual but circumstances stopped that plan.

First when preparing my supplies in the house to take outside, my chalice of Apple cider tipped over. After refilling it and securing it I'm the wicker basket I use to hold my supplies. As I was carrying the basket I rembered I forgot something and turned around to get it. Heading back out, my chalice again tipped over. I went back and again refilled it. This time I brought everything else outside and went back to get the chalice and take it out on its own. As I settled down to prepare to cast my circle I couldn't get the incense to light. After a couple attempts I got it to go. I cast my circle and settled down to start the ritual but again the chalice tipped over, spilling the cider onto the ground. By this point the rain that had been on and off picked back off. I decided to retreat inside and rethink the night. In the end I just settled down in the living room in front of the electric fireplace with my libations, a candle and no lights or sounds.

Last couple of weeks later I had a woman I found on Witches Vox come to the house to cleanse it due to uneasy feelings I had there. Nothing seemed evil, just unsettling and not right. The woman confirmed my suspicious without having heard my thoughts first. As we talked I brought up my Samhain events and she told me that the chalice tipping over was a bad omen. I asked her what she meant and all she said was that it's a lesson for another time.

Has anyone else heard about this being a bad omen? I probably should have pressed the question to her but didn't think to at the time.

First of all, I haven't had any experience with this being a possibility of a bad omen :evilwitch: but I'm going to do some research and possibly try to help you... ok, so I can't really find anything so I guess I'll give you my own personal thoughts...

Firstly, if this was me, I'm quite clumsy so I would probably think it a coincidence. But usually whatever you think is usually right so if you think there's something wrong then... there probably is a chance there might be. Or you could just be clumsy like me :fairy:. But, in all seriousness, there are lots of household omens, like if you spill salt throw some over your left shoulder because the Devil stands on your left side, if squirrels gather nuts early it means the Winter will be harsh, breaking a mirror is seven years bad luck, and spilling milk can make your cows dry up... so maybe it has something to do with that? Maybe it's kind of something symbolic? Do you have any apple trees around, if it was apple cider? If you do then maybe it is some kind of thing that doesn't want you to have food or... maybe I'm just way off.

Maybe try and get a hold of this woman again, if you can? She might be able to tell you more about it definitely than I can and maybe more than anyone else on Everything Under The Moon can? I don't know about anyone else's experiences though. I hope this helped although it probably didn't and I just wasted my time typing this :flyingwitch: but I do HOPE it helped...

So this probably didn't help :surprisedwitch: but let us know if you find anything out about this because I'm quite interested.

Blessed be :D

I wouldn't necessarily put the fact of your Chalice continually tipping over a bad omen. Due to it continually happening though I would more or less call it coincidence or just a possible sign that maybe the spell/ritual you were going to do was not needed at that day/time. It could also be a spirit just playing tricks with you. I have had the same happen when trying to light candles or I am needing a particular one of my crystals and suddenly cannot find the one i need and my crystals stay on my altar together. Like I said it could be a variety of things but I do not think your instance was a bad omen of any kind.

As far as the woman coming to cleanse your house... did she actually cleanse it? If so how did she? Holy Water? Sage? I always recommend smudging with sage it will cleanse and deflect any negativity. After that is done try the ritual you were orignally performing again. I'm sure your Chalice will not keep tipping after your home is cleansed.

I'm going to try and get ahold of the woman again and ask her a little more of what she meant. When she did the cleansing she used both sage and holy water and something else that I can't think of at this moment.

I never thought of it tipping over as a bad omen. I actually saw it as the other way, I thought it was a warning that I should be trying an elaborate ceremony. In the end, my night was peaceful , it was relaxing. I thought about the future and reflected on the past. The thing that gets me, and made me decide on the cleansing was that there it was eerie in the house, not the usual feeling of being alone in the dark in a new house either. Kept hearing strang sunds and got up several times to check the doors. Kept sounding like they were opening ( despite being locked) and sounded like there was someone walking around. All that cleared up after the cleaning.
