Spell/Ritual Against Addictions

Normally I don't share anything from my spellbook over the Internet, but I thought this one was worth sharing because it might be beneficial to people in a similar situation to mine. I know my rhyming verses aren't the best, but it seems to be working for me. I wrote it for nicotine addiction, but I think it could be used for alcohol, street drugs, sex addiction, etc. just as well, with a little rewording. It works best if you do it every day, preferably in the morning (so that it will stay with you throughout the day). As you feel the addiction lightening more and more, you can reduce it to once a week or, then, once a month.

I like to light a red candle for healing, and may put some amethyst out or hold it in my hand (also for healing). (I figure if something works for physical healing, it probably works for addiction healing as well.) If you feel an urge to indulge in your addiction, repeat the spell to yourself under your breath or in your head. Enjoy and best of luck!

(Replace "_____" with whatever you're trying to quit. I have put in "make your gesture to the God/Goddess" but you don't have to do that if you don't have gestures. A raised hand is fine. I use a crescent moon handshape for the Goddess and the horns for the God.)

Face each direction (East, South, West, North) as you call upon each element in turn.
Powers of air, hear my call:
Let this sick addiction fall.
Powers of fire, hear my plea:
No longer let this control me.
Powers of water, heed me now:
_____ I can do without.
Powers of earth, end this reign:
From _____ I will abstain.

Make your gesture to the Goddess as you say:
Goddess, Lady of the Moon
Make me loyal, make me true

Make your gesture to the God as you say:
God above, Lord of the Hunt
Let me be a _____-free one. (Can also use "let me be a sober one" because the rhythm is better. I used "smoke-free.")

I only wrote this and started using it this morning, but I have no psychological urge to smoke, just the physical withdrawal symptoms, and those are much less than before I did the spell :D Like I said before, whenever I do feel the urge to smoke, I just repeat the spell to myself (or part of it) and the urge dissipates.

I realize I have written this from a mainly Wiccan perspective; feel free to leave out the parts about the God or Goddess if you're not comfortable with them. Also feel free to edit any part of this spell so that it suits you - the important thing is for you to be comfortable saying it. No use doing an incantation where you're tripping over the words or feel that the rhythm is off!

Try it and let me know how it works for you!

Blessed Be,
Ether

Thanks so much for posting this! I am battling an alcohol addiction and have felt so.... I don't even know the word. PUSHED, I guess. PUSHED by counselors who insist that AA is the only solution, pushed by people who insist that only God can help me, pushed by people who insist that AA can be religion-free, and yet refuse to acknowledge all the religious (and by that I mean Christian) aspects of it. I guess my problem with all the "solutions" that have been offered to me is that they require me to spends hours and hours and hours in endless meetings and "acknowledge" that I have no power over this.

Something has felt so wrong to me for so long about being told that I had to give up my power. I'm new to learning Wiccan, have only begun to dip my toes into the wealth of information so thoughtfully gathered here, but have had GREAT success with the spells I've tried so far (I'm trying to stick to simple ones while I learn). And now here I find your wonderful ritual and I realize that all I've needed to do is ask the Goddess and God for help. I can't wait to try this and will let you know how it works for me. Thanks again!

AA is "not" the only way to gain sobriety... but the motives for the spiritual principles is to help the soul that is "suffering" which tends to be the primary "state" during the phase of alcohol & drug "addiction". All 12-step programs attempt to "break down" the situation (the psychological situation). It's like breaking down the problem, down to the tiniest little detail, taking your time such as you would if you had to detangle a bunch of yarn, or a tangled necklace, etc. Because the addiction got as far as it did "with time", not overnight. And there were ALOT of situations that were involved in the making of that addiction, such as a crime scene. Therefore, in order to get rid of all the resentments and problems that an addict has "acquired", it's quite intricate and needs to be taken apart carefully, leaving out "absolutely nothing"!
To do this, most people need to take it a step further because of the humility involved. The ego (pride) gets in the way of humbling one's self to the level of admitting (followed by talking about) all the fault one actually has in all the things they've done. It's not easy, and even less for an addict. Morals and principles are involved, and recovery requires acceptance of our wrongs and even righting those wrongs! It's a big task... thus it has been proven that only an act of Providence may/can be the key to recovery.
