This is a recipe that my grandma always makes for me. It is so delicious that I could eat the entire sauce pan in one setting.

4 cups milk
almonds, finely chopped
1 rounded teaspoon of butter/margarine
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup washed white rice
A pinch of cinnamon powder
1/2 cup thick cream

In a large saucepan, heat the milk until boiling. Add butter/margarine, then add the rice and turn down the heat. Cover with lid, and let rice simmer slowly for about one hour or until the milk is absorbed. Transfer to a non-metal bowl and fold in the cream and almonds. Serve in small bowls with sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Great recipe, Stephanie.

What's the phonetic pronunciation of Julegroed, and it's meaning, if you know it? Just curious.

Thanks.

I believe it is a Danish recipe called Christmas Porridge.

I'm not sure how the danish or Germanic pronounce it, but the recipe is from my great grandpa who came to Ireland from Norway. He introduced all the Germanic recipes and the celebration of Yule to my family. I've just always called it, brachán.

This sounds very much like rice pudding! except instead of almonds raisins are added and I generally add cloves, nutmeg and cardamom along with the cinnamon, but I'm a bit of spice junkie.

Brightest Blessings
