If you truly act out of love for not only your friends, but also of your enemies
Tall order, especially for someone who's been wronged. They rarely can find within themselves the magnanimity of spirit to approach a situation like this with the frame of mind you're describing.

But, I think your point is a good one and well said. What you describe puts me in mind of how shamans and other spiritual folk will put someone in their place, so to speak, with negative magic. Yes, they don't do it in a spirit of personal gain, or satisfaction. And usually this is someone whose job it is to do this kind of thing on a regular basis, someone who is responsible for upkeep of the over all energy of a group of people by correcting any imbalances, etc.

And I can see what you're saying about the right to protect oneself, but I'm guessing jaybirdblue has long since not been in actual danger of this person (?), but that he is trying to address a disturbing, hurtful incident(s) from his childhood. This seems to be soley revenge for revenge's sake, a personal vendetta.

I agree, that's why I chose my words so carefully :)

And thanks!

There are many reasons why Witches don't hex or curse, the biggest one being the Rule of Three or the Threefold Law. What ye send out comes back to thee. Sending negative energy out into the universe, even with the best of reasons, is asking for trouble. Witches hexing and cursing others is the stuff of myth, fable, and the Church's lies. Attacking others with magic is a serious mistake, and as far as I have ever heard has never ended well for anyone involved.
This Rule of Three or the Threefold Law is a Wiccan belief, not usually followed by Witches or Hoodoo or Conjure workers. Witches hexing and cursing others is no myth, fable or the Church's lies. It is a serious work of magic and there are consequences and cannot be undertaken lightly but it IS done, probably more frequently than is thought.

If you wish to hex/curse someone I would advise to do some divinatory work first and then after much contemplation if you wish to go ahead then place some strong protection around yourself.

Forgive me; I sometimes use the term Witch and Wiccan interchangeably without thinking, even though I try to avoid doing that.

Ah yes, back in the 60's and even the 70's we used to do it all the time but because Wicca has gone on its own path of watering down the material to the point of it being unrecognizable from the original (Gardner never suggested that Wiccans should not curse) it's now better I think to separate the Witches from the Wiccans. It's a pet peeve of mine that the Threefold Law has been grossly exaggerated and new people are almost brainwashed about it. Before Gardner's time there was no Threefold Law observed. :)

It wouldn't be good for sales if a well established publisher allowed anything without a solid moral basis to brandish their logo. But... surely this wouldn't influence what they print. Would it?

Of course it would. You said yourself, it wouldn't be good for sales, and if it's not good for sales, they're not about to go and do it. That's only sound business.

Ever mind the threefold law.
If you hex him, essentially depending how bad something happens to him, it will come back to you 3 times as strong. You would be essentially hexing yourself.

Magic is a tool which can be used like a weapon. If you use it properly, nothing will come back on you. (I don't believe in karma or the fear mongering stuff, but some people do.) You could always do a justice spell, Santa Muerte is good for this or Nemesis. I personally find that Ishtar/Isis and Lilith are good against sexual predators, myself.

Like as mentioned this threefold law has been grossly exaggerated and misunderstood. It is actually not a law at all, at least not a universal law and things just don't come back to you 3 times as strong.
