I'm a shadow worker (maybe not the right term, if anyone knows the right term, just tell me :) ). I'm going deep inside of me to regain all the lost parts of my soul, heal myself and become the person I truly am. I'd like to help people more with my abilities but I'm not stabilized enough yet. I mainly use Trance to travel inside of me, but also use a lot of dream work. Occasionally Tarot or pendulum. I like to see in my dark side and the dark sides of others to help and transform it into what is best (which is often not the "light side"). So I work in grey, neither White nor Black magic.

I don't celebrate any special days (accept when I feel in the mood spontanesouly) nor do I praise any Gods. But I have spirits ad safeguards on my way, which I've found in Trance and which helped me a lot and I respect them much.

I seldom use any stuff. I like candles and incense but I normally use anything special, just what's there to have a bit of atmosphere. But I don't need much, I have a very high ability to trance (due to my mental illness) and I can do it practically anywhere and at anytime, I just needed to learn to control where I am going because it was usually just "Anywhere but here, please" ;)
Maybe that is what I am doing for myself, a sort of shadow worker? A lot of this describes me too, as far as the sorts of things I do for myself concerning soul-repair and personal Guides whenever I'm not running about like an internet jockey digging up information on the ancients or the human brain.

Traditional Finnish witch here. I work mostly through the power of words, sometimes using the aid of certain spirits. No complicated rituals and very rarely do I use tools. My craft is quite language-based, and the right words are all I need. No rules for my magic. I do what I wish, as long as I know how to do it.

What comes to religion, I'm a Finnish recon, so most of my magical practice is tied to that even though I try to keep my spells and worship separate. I may call my gods to aid me with a spell, but nothing more religious than that in it.

Hi Peregrine,

I took this word from Jung (psychotherapy) and just translated the German "Schattenarbeit" which just means to look inside yourself to find all those hidden feelings, cause hidden feelings will damage you. This has a lot to do with repressed memories. I know some German witches refer to themselves as "Schattenhexe" which means they do the same about digging in their subconciouss, looking for lost soulparts and the like, but with more witchy methods. I call myself too "Schattenhexe" and translated this to "Shadow Witch" or "Shadow Worker" but perhaps there is another word in the English language for describing this.

Seigna :D Oh, pleeeeeeaaaase tell me more :D I'm so fascinated by the Finnish language and culture, I would be so pleased to hear something from the traditional Finnish witch culture :)

@Traumwandlerin: That's kind of a broad request. xD Any details on what exactly you'd like to know? I'd be happy to tell what I can, but I have no idea how to answer and what to say unless you can clarify a bit.

Seigna, I also think what you describe sounds fascinating. Could you give an example of one of your favourite spells? (for the words you write in Finnish could you put a phonetic explanation as well?). I've been to Helsinki but never into the Finnish countryside so I am really curious to 'hear' this.

@Elouise: Well, all my spells tend to be pretty much just long poems completely in Finnish, so I'd rather not write out a full one. I also have no idea how to explain anything phonetically, but I'll give a part of a shorter spell as an example, and translate the words, if that's okay? This would be a traditional spell for protection.

"Jos minä yritän yksin,
Yheksän yrittäköhön,
Jos minä kavahan kaksin,
Kaheksan kavahtakohon.
Nouskohon sukuni suuri,
Kuin on vankka vaaran paltta,
Heimokuntani heleä,
Kuin on pitkä pilven ranta,
siireheni seisomahan,
Vieressä vaeltamahan,
Vasten vastuksen väkeä,
Kohin paikkoja kovia."

In English it would be something like this:

"If I try this alone,
Let nine try with me,
If I have one to help me,
Let eight more to help me, too.
Rise up all of my family,
Great as the greates hills,
Those who are my own people,
My kind, vast as the skies,
Come stand next to me,
Travel alongside with me,
Toward all who would oppose me,
Toward the troubles that await."

Oh wow Seigna, so many thanks :) It's just so beautiful :) I really adore it :) (and I wish my Finnish were good enough to understand it without translation ^^).

And I wouldn't know how to translate it to phonetic in English, there are so many sounds in it, which I never heard in any English word ^^ But it almost reads like German, so easy to me :D

Thank you so much Seigna! I think that is truly beautiful spell & if you don't mind i'd love to copy it into my book of shadows.

@Traumwandlerin I also speak German so I'll just used that pronunciation. Gute Idee, vielen Dank.

@Elouise: I don't mind if you copy it, but if you're planning to use the translation, I'd better warn you that the spell shouldn't actually even work in English. The point in Finnish trad magic is that the power of the spell comes from the words you use, from the language itself. Thus the spell must be in Finnish.

Though of course I guess you can just modify the spell to work for your system, too... :P

The type of witch I am, is a poor witch LOL  But no, realistically I am a nature witch. I stick close to the elements much as I can. I feel free in a forest. I have treehouse where I do my work.

I'm an eclectic witch.

I believe that all gods and goddesses are a part of a universal energy much like the Taoist believe, and that when we die we become a part of this energy. However I believe we are not "truly dead" until we have completed all of what we were meant to do and learn, and that will take several lifetimes

I do choose to worship a god and goddess, but currently I only have one of the two for sure. I've been a "child of Gaia" for a long time apparently. that is to say that I didn't know she was calling me, because she's been around since the beginning of my existence, not just as a pagan or a witch, but since i was born.

I believe in other kin, and therians (i myself am one.) and although my beliefs and practices are eclectic I find myself drawn towards my native American linage, their basic teachings and knowledge.

Beautiful readings I must add, this topic is cool.

If i were to describe myself to fall under any category of witch/wiccan..etc, that would mean I am lying myself. So let me try to be honest here to all.

I love the ideas of magic, and i also believe at one time ago, magic were used freely and even believed that human living back then, depends on the knowledge of magic for survival. I also believe that because of magic, the world almost reached to an extinction. A major magic wars amongst human.

A great power, a divine source maybe, decided to banned the usage of magic...thus leaving behind a very small...and incomplete handsfull of magicians, the remaining few.

The outcome of these 'remaining few', after probably dozens of generation from them, is what we can find today. Today, there are too many terms and categories of organisation...but mostly refers back or originated from the "remaining few's" generation.

As far as magic or, the term Witch goes, my quest is to seek out the era that predates all that can be found today. Only then I shall be able to find a suitable position for myself in the circle. For now...I don't fall to any category as yet, for I am still seeking for deliverance to fulfill my journey.

Its a long way ahead. Right now my journey begins by gradually discovering the language of the angel. The closest artifacts and documentation ever recorded, in regards to angel's language, is that of Enok's records. I need to fulfill the dream which i had, i take that as a calling from above. So i need to prepare myself to be able to communicate in their own language, then peharps I shall summon any of the angel to guide me further in understanding the universe, and the lost knowledge of true magic.

Peharps its fair to name myself as Seeker. I'm not sure if I can ever become a warlock or witch per say. I seriously don't know how to categorized myself. But nevertheless, I do keep close in heart the knowledge of protection which mostly I learned from my own people.

Therefore...I am a Seeker.

I'm an Isiac witch, meaning that I worship the Goddess Isis and call upon her magic, as well as my own power, during my spells and rituals.

I don't plan on actually using the spell, it's more like adding a beautiful poem to my collection of "wise thoughts" (aka a book of shadows however my book has lots of different things in it, not just spells). And I totally agree with you that 'words of power' should always be in their original language.
